You AOTY and DOTY guys out there know that taking a pic of a fish over hawgtrough length can be a PITA and sometimes there are issues about the various extensions used...

In 2014 I shot my PB halibut and in an effort to make sure that the pics showed my measuring stick extension meeting the hawg trough I had to tilt the fish, and prolly cost myself a little length:

A few months after that I was in Petaluma Sport and Dive on the way to go ab diving and saw a killer 49 inch (marks to 48, end of stick is 49) metal measuring stick/ruler and bought it (despite my fears that I would jinx myself and never again get a fish over 31 inches again) and have kept it in the car since then.

Luckily I didn't totally jinx myself and have been able to use this metal ruler on several nice fish...

The ruler is big and you pretty much gotta leave it in your vehicle, but to me it is worth its weight in gold to not have to mess around with extensions or back to back hawgtroughs.

You can buy it at Petaluma Sport and Dive for $29.99 or online for a little cheaper (just google Danielson 48 inch Anodized Aluminum Ruler):

They even have a 60 inch version for you PacButt and WSB slayahs  :smt003

Anyway, figured I would share!

No sense mounting it to the kayak?

I wouldn't say lazy, you'd rather just go get fish :smt005
