Has anyone figured out how to safely stand up in a kayak while fly casting?

it all depends on what type of boat you are standing in and your level of balance quality, mine is very low :smt044, but for the most part it just takes a lot of practice to stand, i know guys that can stand in just about any boat, and for me its not the standing where the trouble comes, its the sitting back down where everything goes horribly wrong, so just practice with no gear with you , you will end up in the water but then you get to practice self rescue, two birds, one stone, cameron

I was able to do it in a Big Rig with no problem.  I can stand in my OK Trident 13, but if I fart I'll be swimming.  I hope to get a new kayak next year that I can stand in, I recommend anything with a lean bar.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

My wife is a fly fisher person and wants to get into kayak fishing and stand up while casting.  During CCK's Paddlefest last month she tried out the Feelfree Lure 11.5 and was able to easily stand and and do fly fishing movements without feeling as though she would fall over.  She tried the the Jackson Kilroy and didn't feel near as stable.  She will be renting the Lure 11.5 in a few weeks to give it a real tryout.

In researching fly fishing from kayaks for my wife I found that some people want to stand and others are fine sitting down and casting.  Some people use a stripping basket to keep their line from getting tangled and others just strip their line into the water on the side of the kayak.  There is quite a bit of info on the web.
"Pedo Viejo" is what Antonio called me.

Sometimes I sit, sometimes I stand. I am in a jackson Kilroy. The lure that was mentioned earlier is similar in stability to the big rig. Both are available for rental at Headwaters kayak shop.

A friend of mine used sponsons to stabilize his kayak. Similar to a Hobie Islander.
