Hard ass time!
If the guy did not need medical attention then why did he need to be rescued?
I am glad the person is OK, but unless there are extenuating circumstances this stuff really creams my corn!
With all the info out there today there really is no excuse.

Talked to someone yesterday. I didn't pay too close attention, but something about he swamped it, it filled with water. He had no wetsuit. another kayaker had to call CG on his behalf because he had no radio. They hailed a nearby boat and he was so cold and weak they had to rope him like a "dead wet dog" onto the deck. They handed him off to a CG vessel. That's all I know.

People who go on the ocean unprepared should get a ticket.

Dress for immersion.  Have at least one VHF.  Have navigational aids.

ALL of us will pay the price if too many people choose ignorance over basic standards.

The man who was rescued was a kid named Eric Anderson. His brother is a chef...................... sounding familiar??????????? Fishing with Dennis Spike?????????????????????? So you have two so called seasoned vets taking someone out who cant advise the kid on safety? Eric is a son to a friend of mines GF. Ill be sure to post back on more as I receive it. Suntino was rescued last year at Albion. I don't recall any one having the balls to say shit to him. Thanks to Shoprat he got his boat back. If you don't exactly know whats up please don't castrate someone before you have all the info. Sonny was light on insulation too at one of the GS's. I don't remember anyone giving him shit either. Just thankfulness he wasn't worse off.

From Spike on F.B.

It's been snotty out there. A few buddies dove for abalones Tuesday swamping their tandem kayak and taking on 5 gallons of water. Brothers, they are both seaworthy and it wasn't more than an attention getter.

Wednesday, Tom G and I launched at Ocean Cove into stupid seas with 4 and 5 foot breaking peaks. We both had a few nice fish landed and were just dialing in the bite when.....We had been watching 2 other (obviously seasoned to be out in that slop) kayak fishermen further offshore for awhile, thinking one had taken a swim and gotten back onboard. Sure enough it didn't look right from a distance and by the time I got there we got another 280# angler off a kayak made for one little kid. He's straddling it like a surfboard half in the water and Tom grabbed the radio right away. San Fran CG answered and sent out the troops (BBCG and CA State Lifeguards w/jetski). In the meantime, me, Tom and the victim's brother hitched up the half submerged kayak, with the victim holding on as best he could, to pull him off the giant boiler rock we were drifting into. Don't forget your bowlines boys. Once that was accomplished, The Swimmer got knocked into the water a few times by waves and I decided to bring him onto my kayak. It's worked before but this guy was big and tired, complained of cold and started shaking just as the commercial fishing boat Aleecat pulled up to take a look. Advised of the situation, he moved in, the crew threw a rope. I tied a questionable knot fast, snugged a loop around his chest and the 2 crewmembers had this guy flying across and out of the water in a matter of seconds. They hauled him 6 or 8 feet up over the rail while the Skipper kept his eye on me, and his boat off me, the whole time. I think the Aleecat lost con$iderable fishing hours having to wait for the CG cutter to transport the victim. We woulda got him to the beach or kept him alive until Scott the Lifeguard got there but it woulda worsened his condition fast and put us at risk. I hope they make a lot of dough this year! Tom and I called it a day.

Thursday- Tom G and I returned to a raging current, some breeze and nice enough seas. The bite was tough. Tom W was out there and we both got 2 lings and some rockfish. No big reds or coppers or even a canary that I have yet to retain. On the last drift in, we ran into esteemed kayak fishing guide Kyle Monte who was boasting an 18# lingcod. We (I) talked smack about his "12 pounder". Hopefully, he'll post the pix. It weighed in at 20.5#. Funny thing, Kyle was fishing with his buddy who was rescued on Opening Day, the same day we rescued the 2 Russians.

Via Fish Master 1.

From Spike on F.B.

From me:  I talked with one of the brothers a couple of days ago.  They stayed upright, just leaky hatch with waves over bow and sneaky wave from astern.  Slow paddle into the wind to get back to launch site.

I have no intention of "castrating" anyone, I just want to find the learning opportunities here.

It sounds like...

- Large fellow on a small boat (not ideal for snotty conditions)

- PFD?

- Did he, or the guys he was with, have a radio?

- Dressed for immersion?

I'd love to hear a first hand account, if anyone knows the guy...

Shit happens, but if we do a little RCA it's less likely to happen again...
