This is a bummer but still interesting in reguards to what can happen to a bass in todays lakes. When we were fishing Clear Lake last week, Tote and I spotted a black bass and I mean it was really BLACK. Almost like it had been stained or charred. It was swimming very slowly and just below the surface, very vulnerable to the osprey and eagle population that patrol C-lake constantly not to mention the otters. As I got closer it turned and I could see that the fish had large white marks on one side that looked like boils or some type of scar tissue. The fish then moved underneath my yak and seemed to be seeking shelter. It was then that I saw that it was also blind. I think this fish may have gotten some type of chemical burns. Any other guesses?
in one of the pictures you can see the damaged white eye.

Terry - I've come across some bass that had one eye as well - I'm thinking it could have been a lure (possibly the one's that have 3 sets of treble hooks) that got the eye damaged.

Parasites will also cause the marks. Or a fungus could be taking over. There are lots of things that can happen to fish just have an aquarium and you'll see what I mean. If the fish has been shallow for a while they will get very dark. As far as being blind. Was it in both eyes? This could be another disease. If its in one eye could be a hook. When you see a lot of fish like this then there would be a problem. Still not nice to see. Working on a plan to get up to Clear Lake soon hope to see you there.
