I'm tired of buying a Garmin 441s every 2 years because they get wet inside on my AI.  I share the unit between my powerboat and another kayak so I have some investment in transducers.  Does the Lowrance units have the same problem with a few waves washing over them?  Not to mention whats a "Chirp"?  Does the Humimngbird units stay dry?  Thanks in advance. Dave

I have surf launch with my humminbird in my trident's sonar pod for years without any problem.

But I recently killed a humminbird surf launching my hobie when the sd card hatch popped open when it was hit by a crashing wave and water went inside. Even though the unit was rated for submergence, it could not stand up to the force of a crashing wave. Next time I will store it inside the hatch for surf launches.

As the owner of a Hummingbird unit with an SD slot who surf-launches, thank you for that information.

Lowrance can be killed by water as well most ff are rated for some water but not water with force like a wave or even a hard rain

someting that can help is to make a protecting cover you can even add a sun shade for easy reading
I suggest use it plastic sign board
The water. An hit the board but not penetrate the board and it takes little time to make one
glade you made it
now let's get our fish on
