Airmar transom mount TM150 w/ blue Navico (Simrad, Lowrance) connector for sale, I've only used it on 4 or 5 outings. Comes with all the bracket hardware. $150 OBO.

For anyone looking to upgrade to an actual CHIRP transducer. This will hands down outperform the Lowrance 83/200, 50/200, or Totalscan which are not true CHIRP.

Thanks for looking

Thanks for putting this up BigTuna.  I am pretty ignorant when it comes to CHIRP on this one vs what currently says is CHIRP on my Lowrance hook 5 w/ 83/200/455/800 HD transom mount model.   Whats the difference, if you dont mind me asking, and how big of a performance difference is there?  Sounds like you have compared them directly.  I figured I would ask instead of going down the rabbit hole on the internets.

I'm no expert by any means, so please take this all with a grain of salt.

The 83/200 is the standard Lowrance transducer sold for many years.  When Chirp came out they still sold the same transducer, and while Chirping a 83/200 does perform a little better than standard pulse sonar it is not using the full potential of "chirp".  The TM150 is "medium" chirped on every frequency between 95 and 155kHz.  I don't know what frequencies the 83/200 is "medium" chirped on, but the range is probably not as big as the TM150.

In addition, each transducer is assigned a Q value.  The lower the Q value, the less ringing and cleaner signal.  I think the Q value for the 83/200 is around 30 and the TM150 (and other chirp transducers) is around 2.  MUCH better quality.

If you've noticed, Garmin started selling true Chirp transducers with their head units.  I don't doubt Lowrance will drop their 83/200 soon.

The difference between TM150 and 83/200, P66 or any other standard transducer is night and day.  Cleaner signal throughout the water column and you can start to actually see some clean arches and target separation.  The signal penetrates farther.

My only concern is the fact you have a a hook 5.  I'm not sure the TM150 works with it.  I know it for sure will work with Elite ti, HDS gen3, or Carbon.  Or Simrad headunits.  In addition, the TM150 is only 2D sonar, it does not have 455/800 downscan.  So if you switched to TM150, you would lose your downscan.

Here's a decent comparison between the TM150 and the P66 which is comparable to the 83/200:

Wow thanks.  "I'm no expert" followed by that!  Well done.   :smt006
