The NWS has down-graded the forecast up here, but I think this bad boy is coming down your way, southern NCKA folk...   :smt009  It's supposed to blow the rivers out, so we'll see...

Yep Eric,  It looks pretty fierce.  We're supposed to get 30 mph winds in Mendocino/Fort Bragg,   and I expect gusts of much more.  That last big storm knocked out the power and closed roads for a few days in some areas here.  Time to stock up!  Take care, all.   -Matt

NWS has up to 70 mph gusts for anywhere in the Santa Cruz mountains over 1000ft elevation. I'm here at 2000ft in the Doon. I spent this (Fri) evening tidying up.
Flashlight batteries? check.
Firewood? check.
Bushmills? check. (even without electricity there is no reason for barbarism :smt003)

Hopefully this boy won't be as bad as our early January monster.

Maybe it'll peter out a bit before it hits us like the last couple have...

"" Saturday: Rain starting after 10 a.m. Five inches forecast in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Winds up to 50 mph and as much as 70 mph in mountains. Lows in the low 40s, highs in the low 50s. ""

I am sitting here trying to talk myself in to going to the sand crab tommorrow. Not sure if its a safe idea to drive 2 + hrs in this stuff. Getting there will be the easy part, the coming back is what worries me. I have the altamont and hw 17 to deal with.  :smt011

I just hope the rivers will be back in working order by Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. I need a kayak steelhead!

There are 25 foot waves predicted for Santa Cruz. Sunday should see the biggest waves. Saturday night is supposed to have the strongest wind.

Just got off the river and it's still looking pretty good. Not much rain and less wind it was pretty nice hope it holds
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

10pm here on the mountain and still no sign of the predicted wind. We've had maybe an inch or so of rain & a decent amount of hail this morning, but it's been pretty quiet. I'm not complaining!

Yep, same thing up here - way way less severe than expected.  Kind of nice, but we could use some regular rain (1-2" a week) to keep the rivers in nice shape.   :smt001

Yeah, maybe I spoke to soon...  The center of circulation appears to be about to slam Mendo and Humboldt, and you guys down there will likely get some ripping winds when the arm pulls through there...

I'm getting sustained winds at 22 mph here at the ranch.  I avoided driving to the coast yesterday because of the potential storm,  but i did get to retighten every screw in my carport and add a cable x brace (no more creaking!). Also made progress on the kayak shed framing.

The storm had too much energy. The colorization in the models was deep throughout. For us to have a sustained violent storm you have to look at tempuratures in the Gulf and what is going on with the weather down there. The demarcation line between Hi and LO front needs to be angled in way to allow storms like the one passing to stall and gather in the troops so to speak. This one was like a teenage boy at the drive-in with his catholic girlfriend.
