A few months ago I have test paddled, Elusive's (Don) Caribbean 14.  I noticed the gear tracks flexes when I applied pressure on it.

Can these now handle heavy trolling like using a deep six or 8 oz weight?

+1 on what Dan said. It should handle the stuff we do up north fine. I wouldn't use it for albies though.  :smt044 Actually it is the perfect yak to pair with an AI which is why 20% of the AI owners have one. My favorite all around kayak, Molly's favorite too.

Was bottom trolling at Capitola last weekend with a rod in the forward rod holder and hooked a shark. The gear track popped off on the takedown and I almost lost a $400 rod/reel combo. As it turns out, the tracks are only glued in. Any thoughts about bolting them on?

I'd bet that glue was just the sealant,,  whoever did the rigging on that one, just overlooked the next ( most important )  step,,, adding the screws!     Lucky you didn't lose gear in that one!
Sometimes the fish isn't the only prize.

For that application we suggest using a Yak attack Scotty mount track adapter. This spreads the load and also allows the base to stabilize on the boat instead of just the track. I can post a photo later when I get to work. But the answer is yes, several customers have used this setup with success. Want more security? Install a GT90 medal track with backer plates. Probably over kill, but it would be super solid.

Yes please post pictures.  I am considering owning a lighter weight kayak.  I am concerned about the extra cost of upgrading to a YakAttack system.
