TOMALES BAY
Tomales Bay boat-in camping is allowed on west side National Park beaches north of Tomales Bay State Park's Indian Beach. These beaches are tidally influenced and generally are small sandy coves backed against steep cliffs. Campers on Tomales Bay beaches must arrive by boat and may not hike, bike, or ride horses to the beaches. Overnight parking for boat-in campers is prohibited within Point Reyes National Seashore (i.e., along the Pierce Point and L Ranch Roads and at the Marshall Beach Trailhead) and Tomales Bay State Park. All waste (including human) must be removed. Disposing of human waste in the bay or onto park beaches is prohibited, so campers must bring portable facilities or limit camping to Marshall Beach and Tomales Beach, where vault toilets and portable toilets, respectively, are available. There is no potable water available. There are seasonal closures on some beaches. Check with the seashore reservation office for updates. Twenty permits are available each day-nine to parties of 1 to 6 people, eight to parties of 7 to 14 people, and three to parties of 15 to 25 people

Yes I was reading that a few of the boat-in camp beaches have camp fires allowed as long as we have a national parks permit.

I will make sure we have everything we need for the group as far as beach camp reservations to accommodate 15 to 30 people, bonfire/campfire permits, and also aiming for getting a camp with toilet facility. Also figuring out where the best place for multi day parking and kayak launch.

This fish and camp will be in mid 2017 and I will try my best to not schedule around any NCKA tournaments and events.

2017 Target months are May-June-July and will try my best to make sure it does not interfere with NCKA tournaments and events.

Will research 2016 fishing reports in the area and check regulations on what will be open during those months.

Looks like I am not able at the moment to reserve dates in any of those months because it to soon to reserve. At the moment they only have reservation open up to early March 2017 which by the way have full availability. I will keep tabs on the reservations to make sure we get the reservations we need.

Tomales Beach and Marshall Beach are the two boat-in camp sites that will accommodate large groups up to 25 people.

Will post a Poll on what months and dates work for everyone in Nov or Dec.

This sounds like fun have you had any luck deciding we're to lanch and park am not familiar with the areas mentioned what is the distance roughly
I was fishing with friends yesterday they were rowing no way they could keep up is this a doable distance   For peddled and paddle
I was running at ten miles a hour and could have gone faster in my AI
I know it's not a race  just an observation I like the concept

Will have my Zodiac as well to bringing a lot of stuff over.

One major detail that I still have not read of or gotten a response to is the parking situation for multiple days.

Thanks guys

Ariel,

If you're launching from Miller launch ramp, then I believe you get an overnight parking pass when you check in at the office to pick up the camping permit.  You can park in designated overnight parking spots at the miller launch ramp.

At least that's what I was told when I reserved a camp site last year.

Jim, Nick's Cove (bar)  is about 1.4 miles across the bay. Easy paddle in daylight... dead drunk at night in cold, possibly windy water... maybe not so great.  Drinking off an AI barge would be safer.
When I have been part of campouts on Tomales, it just becomes necessary for someone to take a bigger boat to the campsite to schlep equipment, potty buckets, water, firewood and maybe run a shuttle to the bar.  Someone with a bit inflatable and reliable outboard to act as "mother ship" is quite helpful.

Rockfish, "how do you do it...(sail)" I'll try to take some pics of my Mirage Classic. There's a vertical hatch right in front of the pedals.  Previous owner replaced the hatch with a 3/8 plywood cover, into which he had embedded a 1/2" heavy PVC mast step.  The standard Hobie sail rig slips right in and will furl.  The hatch is screwed in place, so you lose access while the sail rig is in place.  He also outfitted the boat with removable outriggers, but unless the wind is heavy I can balance the sail without the outriggers.

Not sure what your hatch layout is, or if you're willing to sacrifice being able to open it easily....
I'm in Elk Grove if you want to see it yourself.

I think we should plan some meet ups to scout the areas.

yes i went a few times last year hunting for halibut. I seen the campsite and research on it before. It looks very cool!! Bummed that no pets are allowed or else I would have camped there with my dog

Sweet deal!

I plan to camp over there here soon, but on one of the smaller beaches. I'll try and relay any relevant information that may help with planning.

$5 or $6 total will reserve your spot whether you are staying one night or three nights at the campsite.

there is still a permit for camping fee that I still have to purchase for camping a Point Reyes National Seashore but that will be included in the total fee probably  $6 for each person. (that is camping/permit total)

Everyone will be responsible for their own parking fees for the number of nights you will be staying.

I just checked and the Marshall Boat-in beach camp is also available. It is the only other boat-in site that has primitive restrooms
