Sugar Barge Marina, on Bethel Island, Sat. Nov. 7, 2009. Lots of dough being raised for striped bass & other conservation issues. Terrific raffle prizes, esp. for flyfishers. See www.danblanton.com for details.

I'll be there. Anyone else planning on it?
Bill

Is this fly fishing from kayak?

Yep, that's what I do. Most of the Striperfest folks fish from powerboats but there are a few of us nuts out there!

I am one of those nuts too! I might come this year, I can't fish because of my arm and don't really want my arm to get bumped, but Striperfest is a good time and the money goes to good fishing related causes. (priming our own pump)

ok so what are the details on this? never really heard of this before.  is it a tournament, or like a conservation gathering?
Everybody should have the opportunity to fish

Basically, it is a fundraising dinner/raffle for flyfishing/youth/striper/delta/fisheries protection  related projects and non-profits. It is held at The Sugar Barge. This year it is this Saturday, Nov. 7th, 2009. They raise a butt load of money, more than $90,000 in 11 years.

Most people fish in the morning and then go have cocktails and dinner later in the afternoon. I go to meet other people and learn more from them about the elusive Striped Bass. There are anglers there that have forgotten more about Stripers than I'll ever know.

I copied and pasted most of the pertinent details here. It is a kickass time for a good cause. It would be good to have a few fellow kayak brothers show the powerboat guys how to catch fish!

This year is shaping up to be our biggest and best WWW.DanBlanton.com Bulletin Board Striperfest yet. We just crossed over 120 people and counting. I appreciate the clarifications from the board and emails and believe I have most of you down accurately.

Things will kick off this Saturday, November 7th at 4pm down at the Sugar Barge RV Park clubhouse. I would recommend getting in a bit earlier to check in and pick up your nametag. Look for the commotion surrounding George, Russ and Lucy’s table. Also, you could then meet with Marcus to buy raffle tickets and pick up your new collection of the highly coveted Dave Sellers Striperfest shirts/sweatshirts.

The cost is $30.00 per person. The charity for the proceeds from the raffle will be the Bay/Delta Conservation Committee of the Northern California Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers. Checks can be made out: NCCFFF. Texas West BBQ will be providing the mouth-watering meal including ribs, chicken, smoked beef brisket, beans, cole slaw and potato salad. Serving will commence at 4pm or perhaps a little earlier. So, toss that last RDCR at around 3:15 and head on in! Just look for the table with Russ, Lucy, George and Matt Havelock. We’ll be collecting the $30.00 per person and handing out the name-tags.
