That looks like it could be fun and treacherous. hope I get a chance to make it out there. Pops is thinking about waiting till the weather gets better. So I am trying to figure out plan B.

Heading back soon. Before end of year. Then beginning of year.

Thanks for the reply and p.m.

I am already booked at the cedar lodge along with my Dad. Who is 75.

Looking forward to exploring this gem of a lake with my Dad.

Not sure if this look is good for me though ?

Alex

Can someone tell me how to unsee that picture?
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Plan B is shaping up. Talking a friend into heading up with me early wed morning of the 19th. and fishing till Friday afternoon.

Taking kayaks and hoping to fish Almanor and possibly Butt Reservoir.

Are other species active besides browns ? Rainbows or smallies ?

Nice.  Rainbows are just as active as the browns this time of year.  I've also had fantastic success on smallmouth in winter by finding isolated structure in 40-60 FOW, and dead-sticking Gulp minnows over it.  Anytime you come across a single stump or sunken log out in the middle of nowhere, hover a jig over it and see what happens  :smt004.

Co-ordinates to this stump please. It looks as that area was gone over like a comb.  :smt004

Hit Butt reservoir just before the storm hit the Almanor basin. My friend and I pulled a combined 8 fish from the water near the dam, bottom fishing gulps and bait, and fast trolling speedy shiners and rapalas. Largest fish was a 20” wild bow (caught by my buddy a Greg).  Area was holding a lot of bait and fish, but they seemed pretty hesitant to play, curious what post storm opportunities there may be with unseasonably warm December weather.

Maybe one more trip this winter to see if I can get a trophy brown

halfway geared up to leave early Wednesday morning. Heard the road down to butt lake is pretty sketchy now after the storm. Guess it will make it easier to concentrate on Almanor.

Folks , feel free to pin areas on map and p.m. most productive areas.  :smt005 7 7 :smt005

Started as 2 man trip, now 4.

Fm1 doesnt return my calls. Bah !

Doug Neal’s report mentioned the shallows north of Rec Two towards bailey creek. With big winds in this last storm, I wonder how fishable the area would be or if the fish there held or vacated. Goose bay on the opposite shore (west side south of Almanor west north of the feather river) is also shallow as was protected from the south wind. May be worth exploring...

Thanks for the reminder on wind direction from storm. Will look  for clues on the water. Weather is forecasted good.

These Almanor reports are the best.   One of my favorite places to fish. Hard to beat when the fishing is in fire.
