Looks awesome, but I'd need another one after I accidentally drop this one overboard on a foggy morning...

I got one last year. I wanted a bight light that was waterproof. They are a bit pricey though. I have avoided using mine on the ocean because I read this.

ICON-POLAR CONDITIONS OF USE

The Icon and Icon-Polar are waterproof—rated to IPX 7. This does not include salt spray or high-alkalinity fluids. They will continue to function when submerged one meter deep for 30 minutes. See CARE AND CLEANING for instructions on how to dry your headlamp.

Now I noticed this which seems a little bit conflicted.

IPX7: Waterproof—Best for saltwater and extremely wet environments. Unit is completely sealed and tested to operate up to 1 meter underwater for 30 minutes. Requires no maintenance after submersion.

It looks like there is a newer model than mine because there are different instructions. The newer one seems to be water and dust proof and doesn't mention the salt spray. I'm not sure if mine is suitable for the ocean or not. If you want one, it looks like my model is discounted and the newer one is $100.

The newer one has colored lights and a detachable battery pack.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

I've been very happy with my Black Diamond Spot headlamp. It uses 3-AAA batteries that live inside it's case, so no external battery box. 200 lumens is plenty and if you utilize the dimming feature the batteries can last a good while. It's also water proof and I've definitely got it soaking wet. $30-40 depending if it's on sale or not. Takes up very little room inside one of my PFD pockets.

The Black Diamond Icon, Storm and Spot are by far the best all around bang for your buck as far as headlamps go. I also recommend everyone having one in the house/ car for an emergency. I've owned them all and its more of a preference of not liking the battery pack on the back of your head. Not a bad fit, just preference.

I have this one. It uses 18650 battery. Medium setting is a lot brighter than my 3x AAA headlamp. Last longer than AAA powered headlamp.
