What are your thoughts on salmon fishing in the American River (between Howe and J st) on the 25th?  Too early in the season?

Fuck football.  NFL has shit the bed and I am just not interested anymore.  It helps that my Chiefs finally won a Super Bowl but I could honestly care less about their phoney social justice bullshit and shitting on the flag.

May not be the popular opinion here.. but do whatever you want in regards to photos and social media.  NCKA is about comraderie and helping each other.  If we're suddenly gonna regulate who posts what picture or who says what you can do on social media... then why have these forums?

One of the first responses was about how crowded Millers is lately.  EVERYONE knows that's where the halibut fishing is good.  Hell, any fishing store will tell someone who asks, that's where to go.  Kayak fishing has blown up and not just because of social media, but because of KAYAKS and their ease of access to these waters.

I saw someone bitching the other day and being a condescending asshole about guys who use GoPros on their boats.  Is NCKA changing?  Maybe that's why the numbers have dwindled so recently.  Chill the fuck out and go fishing.

Free to NCKA member.

I have a stand-up kayak rack that I purchased from KayakRacks.com a few years back.  Its a great system that fits into your standard tow hitch and the kayaks stand up in a vertical fashion behind your rig.  The system fits two kayaks AND two bicycles.  Its beefy enough to hold my two 12' Hobie Outbacks and still be below the max vehicle height.  Easy enough for one person to load as well and very secure.  You can read more about it at https://www.rvkayakracks.com/

I purchased a kayak trailer so I can haul the yaks with my Jeep as well, so I really don't need this setup anymore.  My only concern with this rack was the sway.  I never had any problems but I was always worried that the sway would stress out the steel.  This could be fixed on most rigs with a sway bar setup, but the back of my rig wouldn't accomodate it and/or I just don't have the know how to do it myself.

I live in Windsor.  Shoot me an email at cwschillings@gmail.com if you want it.  First to get it out of my yard gets to keep it!

PS... dont tell my wife I'm giving it away!

PSS... You're welcome for the sideways pics!

Piece of cake!  You can do it yourself.  Just have a bucket, chair or something of a decent height to prop it up on while you're installing.  https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/Honda/Pilot/2019/C13146.html?VehicleID=201934803

And this folks is why you don't go out alone... it lowers your odds by 50%!  Take someone you don't like that much or has named you in their will.  And Cabezo...that f'n Batman video made me shit my pants at work.  Damn you!

General Talk / Re: How far do you guys paddle?
« on: June 10, 2020, 04:59:02 PM »
I'm gonna be a responsible adult here and say, no fucking way.  6 miles out in a kayak is too far and absolutely not worth the risk, even for a trophy salmon.  There are SOOOO many things that can go wrong out that far that would put you in serious peril.  Lost paddle, take on water, weather, flip, fatigue, darkness, fog, dead gps, handheld radio dead or out of range, and the list goes on.  If you're going with friend(s), I'd say your brave.  If you're going alone, you're a fool.

And why go 6 miles out when you can catch the same fish 1/2 mile off shore?  Its just not wise.  If you want challenge, then do like these other bad-ass salmon fishers and paddle your 12 miles while 1/2 mile off the coast.

Regardless, whatever you chose I wish you the best of luck.

(somebody had to just come out and say it)

I haven't tried that one yet.  I've been considering popping over the mountain and staying at Konocti RV park but the weather hasn't cooperated.  If you go, let us know what you think.   I'll shout out about Konocti.  Good luck!

It must be blowing up again because of his recent Marlin video that went viral.  People are absolutely shitting the bed about him leaving the hook in the shark's mouth.  The video is full of dipshittery but I appreciate him being humble enough to put his past mistakes out there.

Congrats... I was just inquiring about a trip there last week.  Any tips on traveling to get there?  Where did you fly in/out of?  Ground transportation?  Any recommendations?
