Barb question:  You have to unload the salmon before using barbs again.

As far as the bottom bouncing I recommend a pound, but I guess it would depend on how deep your fishing and your line.

Malibu Kayaks / Re: X-Factor Rudder Installs?
« on: May 03, 2012, 09:57:14 AM »
I installed a crack of dawn rudder I got off Amazon for $89.99.  It took lil while to install only cause it was my first time.  The pedal controls kinda suck so I may upgrade to the sea-lect foot control systems which work like a gas pedal http://www.duckworksbbs.com/hardware/canoe-kayak/rudder-fb/index.htm
I Havnt had a chance to use it yet though.

how much weight would i need to do a lead realise deal? bout a pound or more?

I usually go with 1 1/2lb (24oz ball) or 2lb ball when using a sinker release

Has it held up well? I'm debating on buying one. I feel that I already bring way too much stuff camping as it is.

hey chad, we use these at the catering company, and they get used and abused, our oldest is 8 years, they are very problem free, i would hold out and wait for them to get the 3 burner in though that way you can have 2 burners free and the third for the flat top, cameron

Its been left in the rain and abused but I never have a problem firing it up.  The iron skillet did rust really bad so I dont use it anymore, but that is easily replaced.  Works great for canning my albacore or salmon outside.

How could I convince a DFG officer I am targetting halibut and not RF?

Simple use more than 2 hooks or have 2 rods or more out.  If your using a salmon belly or tuna belly on a 16/0 circle hook I would think it wouldnt be too hard to convince the DFG officer your fishing for halibut.  Also go to a depth more than 120 feet.

Tomorrow blood and bright silver scales will paint my lap.   :smt003

I hear the cove calling... might head down thurs or fri. for a dive/salmon troll.

I'm going tomorrow since I didnt end up going this last weekend.  My backup VHF radio STD Horizon HX751L will be here today so now I can charge my old STD Horizon HX751L.  If time allows, I will have my Crack of Dawn rudder installed so I can test it out when trolling tomorrow.  I will have a report when I get back.
