Ft. Bragg: June 1st-3rd

Just wanted to throw out a line for anyone in the area.  I'll be heading to MacKerricher for some camping and fishing in the Ft. Bragg area.  Last year I did this same trip and the swell was ridiculous.  Went out anyways and got some rockfish and a cabezon, but couldn't stay out for long due to the increasing swell.  Hopefully this year the swell will be more friendly and I can stay out longer and get some bigger fish.

Where do you launch at MacKerricher? Isn't that a beach launch? Or do they have some launch protected spots. I have always wanted to fish that upper section sometime and figure it has to have some big ones up there. Good luck!

I've only fished there once, and we carted the kayaks from the beach parking lot to the south side of the point.  It's a bit of a haul, especially fully loaded, but that was the only option.  I had bad luck that weekend and the surf was so big on the beach I wasn't going to chance launching/landing from there.  I'm hoping that conditions are a bit different this time, because I've been there where a B2B would work well.  Not sure how the fishing is on the north side of the point, but the south side was pretty good even in rough conditions.

The group I'm going with has an extra campsite for Friday and Saturday nights this weekend.  If anyone is looking for a place to camp and/or fish, let me know and we can make arrangements.

Forecast for Saturday is looking pretty good with WNW swell, 4ft@11 seconds at 6am growing to 6ft by noon.  Winds fairly calm in the morning at 5mph growing to 10mph by the afternoon.  I'm planning to be on the water by 7am and probably done by noon, but may stay out longer if the conditions are OK.   Afternoon forecast is for 6.8 ft @ 7sec which sounds a bit rough.
