AOTY / Re: 2021 AOTY is underway!

Same here. Doesn’t take my entry

Read your rescuers post on FB yesterday. I do a lot of Kokanee trolling at Bullards Bar myself and had many snags but also make sure the know is not too tight. Having this happen in middle of lake is crazy. Probably a submerged lose but heavy tree/log? Those would be always big concern when I see those early season waterski folks.

Two weeks ago I lost my DR ball at pyramid lake when I suddenly got snagged. Was one of the expensive 4fin balls but probably saved me from worse. Had the ball attached to a ‘ Scotty #370 Downrigger Weight Snubber’ which did what it’s supposed to do. Break.

We’re you not able to swim to shore hence stayed with the kayak? Even the shores there are steep and muddy and crawling up the shore could be major challenge. I tried before I got my ‘pee bottle’. lol.

I do have a fairly heavy trolling motor installed on side of kayak now and it’s definitely leaning. Never tipped over or fell of kayak but this makes me wonder whether I could even flip it back with trolling motor installed.

Good reminder also to have strength in numbers especially in winter. I usually go up there on short notice but folks might join if you announce on this board day or so before.

So glad you are ok. My wife trusts me that I do everything to be safe out there especially when going on own. And tells me to keep wearing my neoprene pants and put that dry jacket back on. Tempting to go without when sun is out. Better be sweating than submerged in 50 degree water.
I might go Sunday morning to Bullards Dark Day. I hate those cables at the dam to avoid. Those got me a few times before as well.

Entered for 2021.
In 2020 I had enough valid submits to finish 13th.
Aiming beat my personal bests this year and at least 12th

Congrats!
No idea how you do that catching so many species in those sizes.
There are some awesome catches.
Maybe this is the year I will hit ocean waters!

Happy New Year 2021 everyone

Good chance no one checks you. Guess best chance anyone would ask is in Bay Area or Delta? I never got asked but it’s mainly lakes I am fishing.

Welcome Will!
Lots of great inland fishing lakes around Sacramento within 2 hours drive.
A very popular local spot is the Port of Sacramento and you will meet many Kayak Fishermen there.... closest and safest way to get started on Kayak and hook up on some stripers or even salmon in the late fall. Also lots of bass fishing. Hopefully Folsom opens up soon. Bass, Trout, Salmon...

Amber called everyone up who still had reservations.
Glad to hear they are still open but yes only every other site will be booked.
As NCKA event was officially cancelled she also booked me to a future date which I can always change to any other date. Just didn’t make sense to come up with my tent trailer with forecast of cold weather, rain and winds. I might come up for Saturday without camping though.

Hopefully Berry stays open. It’s one of the few places which didn’t get many restrictions yet. The parties and big group gatherings I do understand should be restricted. But single people or small family on a boat. Really should not be taken away.

Looks like the weather forecast is turning on us for the worse now as well. Gonna be cold and probably even some rain. Winds probably over 10 MPH.
Still want to go but might change my mind and donate the fee to the place. Wind and rain and cold is just not good combination.
Will decide Thursday.

Rollins for a walk this afternoon. Launch ramps closed. Still able to launch at freeloaders cove. Water is clear to 20'? Fished a bit but bald eagle circling overhead so fish hiding. Lots of other folks out walking with dogs and kids. 😍  safe distancing observed by all. Stay safe out there.

Where is freeloaders cove? Such a shame just as fishing is heating up.

Home Depot still doing lots of business with folks off and spring cleanup underway.
I have not cancelled my site 11.
Wife still seems OK for me to disappear for 2 days.
That’s benefit from working from home for last 10 or so years. Haven’t been at Berry since last year and need to get that skunk removed. A year more experience I am hopeful to get some Crappie or maybe a trout or even a Kokanee.

Will be socially distancing but happy to share some beer and I think we should be fine around a fireplace 6 feet apart. I assume there will still be a few there but understand if many cancelled. Obviously everyone should stay home if they know to have been in contact with someone with the virus. It becomes clear it was already spread much more than anyone knew.

Actually surprised this camping site is still open. Might change in the next days.

Called and talked to the folks at Steele canyon, Berryessa, they will be open unless forced to close. Trump speech today mentioned NOT closing outdoor camping type venues. California may be different though... :smt006

Looks like they might even have camping still open?
Might be cold weekend coming up but if camping open I might just use my reservation next weekend.

Assuming the AOTY event was cancelled?

These are two good sites

https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

Especially that graph on right bottom if you expand shows the timeline with confirmed and cases which are deemed cleared. You can remove China as well. Remember the numbers for the US were just a few dozen a few days ago?

I like the below because it shows the daily change. What happens with flattening the curve is that it will actually take longer but avoids the chaos. There will be a time I think where so many people will have had it that they will open things back up. But risk especially for seniors will still be very high but hopefully capacity exists to help them survive. At some point the economy will have to restart again. This is quite the reset.

I work from home all the time anyways. So that hopefully stays that way. better get out of the house fishing to stay sane next weeks.

Man. This is really a great group of diverse and respectful folks. And top notch front line information. Should read this over google news.
I have been lucky to work from home for last years and don’t have folks over 60 at home. But still will stop the gym and instead do some runs. And of course will be out in kayak as much as I can. Stock market sucks big time. But let’s be honest Wall Street doesn’t need to be saved. It’s the folks loosing their jobs and income. Business is not gonna be back to normal for 1-2 months I bet. Even China hasn’t fully restarted yet. And if they do it might just start all over again. My doctor told me he things it’s already everywhere we just don’t know as no one is tested. My wife takes care of seniors and that is my biggest concern. She never gets sick ever but she might still give it to the seniors she cares for.

My parents are in Germany and my mom has cancer. So this year sucks. Germany seems to be doing well not having people die of this as much. So much the US could learn from other country if this is taken serious. Can’t just let millions die just because they were vulnerable.

Looking forward to Berryessa. Will keep some distance but happy to share my German beer. Let’s not cancel that?
