UPDATE 5/7/2015:

Changing gears to searching for a 'Toy Hauler' style of trailer.  This will allow me to haul "Mutant Vehicles" to Burning Man OR the wife/kids/toys out for a weekend of camping.  Not their (the wife/kids) first choice for a trailer but I win! :smt003

Haven't looked for trailers in a month+ & sort of gave up on it till next year but the spark has re-ignited for a possible need for one in the next month or so!

Original Post:

Looking to buy a travel trailer in the 18-21/22' range.  Few stipulations put forth by the wife & ME:

No "projects"  (this was the wifes #1 & only stipulation)
Minor Fixer-Upper ok within reason
No Leaks/Clean
Ability to sleep 4-5 people
~2000 & newer
No 5th Wheel .... Must be a pull trailer
Roadworthy w/ maybe some minor repairs needed
Towable by my V8 Tundra

You'd be surprised how many on CL miss some of these qualifications ... especially the road-worthiness.  I looked at THOUSANDS of CL add this past weekend.  From Sacramento to Mohave.  Found less than a dozen that would have qualified.  Out of the dozen, I visited one (a bust) & called 3-4 more with never a return call or e-mail :smt012  More frustrating is they have re-listed since I left a call/e-mail ... can we say :spam1::smt011

Made a 4+ hour round trip drive this past weekend to look at one in Stockton only to find it was FAR off the Craigslist add in length, options AND condition .... missed every mark! :smt013

Figured I'd cast a line to my NCKA peeps in the event they have a lead on one.

Thanks! :smt006

Price range?

What's your truck's tow rating, some of the older trailers are heavvvy,

On the other hand I had a 98, 21 ft that had an as built dry wt of only 2800#, (that's minus everything, like propane tanks and even the battery isn't included in the sticker wt.)

2000 Tundra V8 with 2000# air bag rear helper/ride control.  I believe towing capacity is around 5000# which is why I question some of the 25/26' trailers at close to 5000#.

As for $, that depends on the trailer, condition, size, etc...  I will take that one case-by-case.  Target trailers (for price ref.) will be between 1990 & 1996 in age I am guessing.

5000#  for a Tundra doesn't sound right, I have an 07 Tacoma, v6 with tow pkg that is rated for 6500, although I would never get close to that as a rule of thumb.  Right now I have a trailer that packed up goes around 4300, (that's more than I'd like) and I have 1000# lift bags that I run at about 40psi vs max of 100, and a load leveling hitch.  Tows well, no problems yet, gotta work a little, on a big hill, and I always keep my brakes and controller in tune.

Happy hunting,

Happy hunting,
I just googled it & got 4950-7200# towing.  Based on this, I went down to 5000#  I just installed a Tekonsha P3 brake controller last week in prep. for a trailer.  Put the air bags on a few months back after making a trip to the scrap year with close to a ton of scrap steel in the truck bed.  I can tow my 18' pontoon boat loaded down with relative ease & it has no brakes & only 1 axle.  With it had brakes & was a tandem for longer hauls but it is what it is.  Just put a new set of rotors on the truck Saturday .... will need to do it again with much better ones.  All I could find Sat. were ones at AutoZone & they would have ordered the better ones in a week.  The ones I replaced were from AutoZone & I got 9 months out of them :smt012 before they warped.  These will hold me over for a few months at least till I can research & get better ones.

Been traveling every night this week to look at different ones I've found on CL but just haven't found "the one" yet.  If you know of one for sale or the such, I might be persuaded to do a little finders fee gift of some sort.

A little newer than my pocketbook can afford.  Would have been about ideal otherwise.

Still looking!  We will also consider a hybrid trailer.
