So 6k total including the 5k permit???

EDIT...  whoops, saw you dropped 4K on the gennie

I live out in cazadero and was looking into genny power during these last storms...

I figured  ~300 for manual transfer breaker box + ~ 300 pro labor + whatever you can find a 8-10k generator for so maybe 1500 - 2k all said and done

Oh yeah, you can for sure do it cheaper.  And I may have overestimated, it was probably more like $5k.

I had planned for a substantially overbuilt system to include a future garage, shop, and possibly an in-law unit so I ended up popping for a 10k W surge model from Honda. The Gennie was the most pricey part but I shopped around and the Hondas from Northern Tool came highly recommended by a couple of neighbors that use them (and they keep their sh*t outside!) I also got the battery for electric start and a cage/wheel kit which bumped up the price.
But I am super stoked on the whole setup. I already had to store fuel for other machines so that was no biggie, and I'm used to getting fresh gas every 2 weeks or so. I have also used Stabil for the longer stretches.
Our power hasn't gone off much but you never know. With earthquake or fire we could be without power in the summer season for days.

Can you just imagine if power were to go out in a big urban area for a few weeks!? City folks would lose their minds without their gadgets!  :smt044
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

Not just urban areas.  If my wife waits more than a second or two for a page to load she freaks out and acts like we are back on dial up.  More than an hour and she lost her mind.
