I was introduced to this dish Memorial Day weekend.  It sounds a little unusual, but it turned out very well.

Ingredients:
1x  abalone
4x sticks of butter
1x clove of chopped garlic (add more if desired)

1x large pounding tool (a 2x4 works well)
1x large towel to wrap abalone

Abalone Prep:
Clean and trim whole abalone
Wrap abalone with the towel.  You need to do this in order to prevent the abalone from flying when you pound it, holding the towel.
Beat it silly so it’s cracked, pulverized and tenderized.
Melt the butter and combine the garlic in a med sized pot.  Remove pot from heat and add the abalone to the pot of melted butter/garlic and marinate for 1-2hrs, turning over every half hr so the butter and garlic penetrate.  You can also use a Ziploc bag to marinate, once the butter is melted.

Over a red hot BBQ, toss the abalone on the grill for 3 minutes, and turn over for another 2-3 minutes.  Slice it on the cutting board and you’ve got an interesting appetizer dish that most have never tried.

I get abs so seldom I've never gone beyond the quick fry with a side of butter. It's basically the same recipe only with a pan of oil instead of the BBQ. Not too adventurous but undenibly tasty.

I’m cramming the trip in, so I probably won’t have time to set up a BBQ.
Instead, I’ll fry up some abalone in panko flakes and some fish on Sat PM.

Those who haven’t tried abalone can stop by.

Mooch,
Your name says it all.  I’ll save you some too.
