Thanks for the sinking line info.  It was a bit out of my price range ( per she who must be obeyed) but a Rio WF6S6 sink rat 6-7 ips was permitted:  4'6 tapers , a 32' head  and 40' of running line.   Just put it on a reel and went out casting in the park, holy cow.  I stripped out the full length of the line did a few false casts and let it rip with my 8' 6 wt rod.  I am amazed at how far it goes with no effort.  I had 10-12 ft of line left in the pile before the backing. :smt004

I might be able to sneak out tomorrow after shift or it will have to wait for Saturday and Sunday at which ever lake(s) I end up at.

No prob, if you're going to target stripers you often need to get deep. If you get serious about targetting them then use a heavier rod than a 6wt. A decent sized striper will blow up a 6wt. no problem. That little 20" striper at Del Valle I caught had my 8wt doubled over.
