General Talk / Tarpon dual hatch tankwell insert
« on: July 24, 2010, 09:05:57 PM »
Hey all,
Do any of you know how much one of those old inserts is worth? I found one. The guy said make offer. Also, those that have seen or used one, what do you think about them. I know it will never be like a true tankwell.

   Thanks

Is a 5 mil farmer john too heavy for paddleing? Is 3 mil better? What do you guys think? For ocean use. Also, how snug do I want it?

    Thanks, Rob

Had to work up the hill so decided to shore fish Jenkinson(Sly Park). No love at all. Little six year old caught a nice stocker next to me. Decided to try the road to Caples. Open. When I got to the lake,  found the full lake free of ice. Snow all around. A little windy and cold. I only had shorts and light sweatshirt on. Started killing the planter rainbows w/Powerbait. Only thing  I really had to use. Chartreuse, rainbow, red, did not matter. Worms were working for others too. used a couple lures, but no luck. They must be hungary. Fish are thin. Memorial weekend the lake was frozen solid according to another fisherman. I would assume from the lack of ice that high, most lakes around should be fishable now. Sorry, no pics

Got up nice and early to no wind. Got to the lake 45 mins later and paid my fee. Drove to the water and the shore was being pounded by 1.5 foot waves. Didn't feel like foghting the waves and wind. They gave my money back at the gate. :smt001 Left Collins and headed back to the valley, light breeze. Thermalito afterbay for bass. They've been dropping the level fast for irrigation. All the good weeds and grass are out of the water, stayed anyway. No fish. Saw some large carp splashing around. Talked to a guy who had his dogs there and no fishing pole. He is a tournament type guy. He told me wait for a couple days and the water will be back up 5 feet. It's crazy how the water changes there, 5 feet in a couple days. I've seen it. Anyway, he says the place is full of bass and told me how to fish for them later. Now home fixing stuff. Rather be fishing.

Kicking it around tonight. If not windy when I get up I'll be there around dawn. Launch down near dam. Paddle for trout early. See how it goes. Supposed to be good still. Then switch over to bass later. They're just starting to get better now. Anyone feel like going?

General Talk / And you thought it didn't exist

How many times have we been 'up there without one!'

Went this afternoon between appointments for a couple hours or so. Saw some BIG (10-15+ lbs) carp swim under and lots of small (1"-4") bass. One small hit and that was about it. I was there at the wrong time of day I think. Wish I could have stayed till evening. Last week caught a couple 3/4 pounders from shore and was hoping for more big ones today. Oh well, next time.

Working in Chico and Oroville today, so I'm taking my small yak to Oroville dredger ponds. Had a little luck there last week from shore. Now time to go for it.
Molbasser, if you want to go let me know and I'll haul you down there and take you home. Around 3 or so OTW. 916-202-2631. No email available.

General Talk / BBQ Trailer- Kayak Hauler
« on: May 06, 2010, 07:52:31 PM »
There was a topic a while back about a BBQ kayak trailer. I posted a link to see the BBQ part. Well last week I went to So Cal to see the family and ended up tailgating at the Angel/ Yankee game. Took a few pics while I could still see straight. All this needs is a kayak rack on top and it would be perfect.
   Ammenities include:
2 large grills
1 deep fryer
Spice Rack and utensile storge
2 large Ice chests
Satellite TV
Stereo
Electric lift for TV
Large storage area for chairs, umbrellas etc.
22" wheels
Finished decking for table
removable storage rack for plates, cups etc-doubles as large cooking prep table

I could go on and on. Pics do not do total justice for this thing.

General Talk / Loaner Kayak
« on: March 17, 2010, 04:57:57 PM »
Hi all,
I know not too many of you know me yet, but some do. My father is coming from Southern CA next week to fish and hang out. On I think Tues and Wed I'm going to camp at Collins Lake with my wife and Dad. Problem is, I have 2 kayaks and three people. Any of you have one to loan out for a couple of days so the wife can be happy and not sit on shore all day? (WAF points) Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been wanting to buy a third, but can't quite yet.
    Thanks Rob   Sac area prefered
