Stealth / Stealth Meet Up and Paddle
« on: April 20, 2018, 08:31:21 AM »
Gents and Ladies,

Those of you that are Stealth owners we have been talking about having a Stealth meetup and Paddle. It would be great to get everyone together and get a good Stealth USA picture and slay some fish on the water. I am pretty open these days if you guys are in i will coordinate and plan it. Just respond here and we can get it all together.

Alternatively if facebook is easier, join the stealth USA group or ping me @hazegreyhunting on FB or IG.

Tight lines !

Stealth / The evolution of Glassy (pro fisha 525)-
« on: November 27, 2017, 09:21:40 PM »
Oh fanboys and onlookers,

Man, this has been quite the journey. I have a blog post written all up but it is not ready for primetime yet. I digress and let's talk about the Yak. So, I am almost a month and a few days in and rigging this beautiful boat has been nerve-wracking and so much fun. Talk about extreme highs and lows, but this is what I have done thus far. I got it home put it together then cut it to shit. The end result is pretty amazing.

Flush Mount:
Lowrance Hook 5 - Flush mount in between my legs.
Yes, I cut a hole in my yak, I am going for a very clean deck feel with this boat so hopefully when I get a little proficient at diving it is a great dive platform also with no clutter on the deck. I saw this online from RokkitKit out of Aus and I think it is the easiest and best placement of your finder (for me).
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FN4kOqZVBRSIjDqxGccAD_cC97cHOu_l/view?usp=sharing

Then the finish mount:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Bsz012j58v3JevP8Z83Ey8ScuuQ50Hxo/view?usp=sharing

I have a video showing all the under mounts I will post it later. This install is not hard but it leaves a hole in your yak, you have to be confident you want this forever.

Cover Latch:
I installed a Bungie cover latch. It was pretty easy just a hole in the lid and 3/4 bolt with two Bungie stays, I opted not to cut another hole and used the pre-existing pole holder bolts with red bungie to match the racing stripes.

Flush mount Rail Blaza ports:
I added two flush mount Rail Blaza ports just north of the hatch, I opted to drill holes and use the bottom of the port as backing.  I know I will troll these for Halibut and salmon so I wanted to add something to the bottom of the mount but they are sturdy.

These came out really well and I like the look of the total deck.

Seat:
I called stealth and asked if they could make me a custom seat to match the paint job of my kayak. It came and it is pretty.I really like it, the back support will be needed for those 6 hours paddle sessions.

Handles:
I replaced all the feet on the handles because they were cracking. Stealth sent me a bunch of new ones to replace the shotty ones.

For now, I am done rigging I have the battery box to mount then I am set. Hoping to get out and slay something soon. Hoping

Stealth / Fisha 500 vs the Pro fisha 525
« on: August 28, 2017, 11:20:31 AM »
I have been doing a lot of research on the stealth kayak Fisha and Pro fisha. I am going to buy a stealth but i wanted everyone opinions here on what model and why? I still need to paddle one in the chop but I am pretty convinced this is my next boat.

1. Fisha vs pro fisha and why?
2. Anyone headed up to Simply that would let me paddle yours for a few hours? Maybe bloody the deck a little??

Thanks,

Jackson Kayak / Kraken Sailing
« on: July 10, 2016, 09:30:42 AM »
Has anyone thought of putting a sail on your kraken?   I saw a really cool sail kit and was wondering if anyone has tried this or is using one on a kraken?

After a few last minute plan changes Stacy and I headed back to the cove this weekend for round two.

Sat:
We got in the water about 06:00 paddled to the  red bouy and trolled a couple of markers from two weeks ago. We both hooked up with a couple lings and a blacks and one China. We snapped a few rigs but the bite died with the tide change. On the way in Stacy caught a few nice rockfish.

A nice haul before the wind kicked up at 12.

Sunday:
We were on the water early 5:45 tide was low and first drop we both had hits. We trolled out to the honker bouy, grabbing a few small lings but we threw them back.

And a few rock fish.

With the tide and wind going in opposite directions the bite was on, we both landed two legal lings and hooked into a few big lings that eluded us today.

We trolled a bit more catching some nice blacks and a last ditch ling on the way in. All in all a  good haul for the weekend.

I love this place, such a grounding force in nature. We will be back soon .

First off I have to say Shelter Cove is such a bad ass place, every time I am here I feel transported to a different place where life is a lot simpler.  Okay, on to the good stuff.

We booked a trip With Loleta Eric for Sunday the 5th, we came in late, late Friday night and got camp setup. I went out in the cove and drummed up a small ling(off at the kayak) and a 18 inch black.  I only stayed on the water for a few hours Saturday as the tides and wind were not cooperating. Also, 3 hours of sleep doesn't work well with bad weather on the water.  We sat back and enjoyed the rest of Saturday surf fishing and watching all the party boats bring in their catch. Lot's of crabs and blacks, some decent lings and a few Cabezon.  Everyone was traveling north and south too find a good bite and get on fish. No one was catching any silver.

Sunday morning was a super negative tide, the fog was dense and about 40yd visibility with a ripping current. We headed out the cove to start the drift and we quickly were socked in by fog. Eric struck first and caught a nice ling and black to start the day, then the bite went south.  Lot's of trolling and not much biting. After fighting through the fog to find the whistle and  get back on course for a drift Eric put us on a honey hole and quickly hooked into a monster ling, the fight was on and as i got it close to the Yak it striped off 60 yards of line like it was nothing. I tried to recover the line as i could see his head coming up to the surface he went on  another run and snapped the line.. We setup a float over the same spot again and i hooked back into what felt like a LIng O LOg, heavy  heavy fish finally got this one up as rod looked like it wanted to snap on me.  Eric netted the beast of a ling and it was the biggest fish of the day.  Ling o Log official:  18lbs, 36inches

We had a few more missed chances but nothing stuck after the current died out, all in all,  it was a great day on the water with good friends and good company. Thanks again Eric!

Well on to the next adventure. Eric, we are coming up for Trinidad!

Jackson Kayak / Picked up my Kraken.
« on: March 17, 2016, 07:22:55 PM »
I drove out to headwaters two weeks ago sadened to find out that they no longer are carrying Jackson kayaks. So I dropped into Cal Kayak and Canoe this past week and they had a new 2015 Kraken. I have now joined the jackson clan.  Now,  I am stuck in the bat cave rigging it for the opener.

I took it out yesterday in the Richmond marina, just to get a feel for balance and rigging options.

Can't wait to get back out on the water. See you all soon .

General Fishing Tips / New Reel, need some Rod help
« on: January 01, 2016, 12:28:08 PM »
I received a really cool gift from my best friend living on the east coast. He knows I am building out my kayak rig and sent me a new Shimano Thunnus CI4 4000. I want to be able to utilize this reel on my kayak for a live bait rod but being the Noob that i am, i don't want to go out and just buy any pole for this reel and I am not versed in saltwater live bait applications.  Hoping the collective brain trust here could help with some suggestions on what you use for live bait rods on your rigs?

Thanks,
