I use a cheap $8 Bubble Box, but the sound can drive you nuts after awhile.

Great... my "cheap Bubble Box" is already well in route from Cabelas..I woulda coughed up the another 10 for the quiet one had I read that sooner!

Anyone have any ideas for a tank that would fit at your feet (not the kaya-thats  beer space)? Reaching  back is tiresome and tippy. I want to figure that one out because I'd rather build a real bait tank instead of the cheesy bubble box. Otherwise, finding a trained monkey to sit on my shoulder and hand me baits is probably not realistic :smt003

sean I am curious to hear what you think of the extreme bait tank?  I was thinking of getting one and building my own livewell with it.  I keep most of my tacle in my center hatch any way and I just use the rear for my drybag witch I hardly acess on the water any way.

The MK well is nice, but expensive compared to a bucket.

Yup... that factory made MK bait tank is the sweetest setup.  InsaneDuane has one on his Extreme.

BTW, how much does that unit cost?

Just the plastic tub is about $60 bucks, then you have to plumb it.

Sean how do you run the pump at 6v?
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

You just make a 6v supply, it will run, but at a lower speed, which is what you want.

That's too funny... :smt043   That Jellyfish kid is okay in my book.  How can you complain about a kid that loves kayak fishing that much as we all do!  :smt023

I used a bilge pump from wally world (attwood) and a one way valve (cost more than the pump!) from west marine.

I draw water from a pipe stuck in one of the scupper holes through the one way valve and through the pump into the tank.  Pretty sweet.

It seems like up north, where the only thing that really 'requires' live bait is halibut, a simple bait bucket does the job pretty well.

mine is a recycled bucket of olives, purchased at L.A. Cetto Winery in northern Baja. (I asked about the olive trees surrounding the vinyards,
they sold me a bucket of olives!). But I think any little bucket will do  :smt002

If I'm not paddling, it can sit in the water. a little lead weight (hand made, purchased from a mexican tackle store, but again, any will do!), makes it so the bucket floats on its side:

If I am paddling I could get a battery powered aerator, or just chuck it over the side every once in a while. which is what I do.

some holes in top allowed me to just stick the anchovies in the holes. A flap keeps all but the most escape-minded captive:

this system kept me supplied with anchovies for several hours and resulted in a halibut.

It seems a ff is way more important than a bait tank for the nor-cal kayaker. (I have not figured out how to make one of those from an olive bucket,  :smt009 ).

I followed quietmans article which has already been posted but here it is again:

http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/articles_view.asp?Kayak_Articles=15

it works well and was very cheap.  I love that the water draws and exits from my rear skupper holes.

Though, if I were to do it again I'd very likely just buy one of these:

http://www.kayakfishinggear.com/catalog/bait_tank_166771_products.htm

You can use them as a cooler when you are not using them to hold your live bait.

so, I finally got a chance to test my Aero Bait  / live bait bucket at Lake Mendo and I really liked it! If any of you are interested in getting one - they sell 'em at Fisherman's Warehouse / SJO for $39.99
