Or something of the like. A late 70's vintage Knudsen milk crate is just a bit too wide to fit nicely between the padeyes on my rear deck. So I'm looking for a heavy duty square crate. Anyone have some sugggetions? The ones I've seen at the various *-marts look pretty light duty. I've heard that the ones for the 5 gallon water bottles are reasonably well made - but where to find them ?

Regards,
Scott

Well, I'm walking down an alley between Bryant and Castro streets in Mountain View last night. And lo and behold - there are two milk crates. Just sitting there. Taunting me. Knowing they were safe because my wife was with me, and there were also plenty of witnesses  :)

You can certaqinly find them laying around but also if you find a resonable shop keeper they will usually sell them to you as long if you make it worth it for them. I think they pay a deposit on them or something.

About 4 years ago I was goofing around by putah creek in davis and found half a dozen milk crates in a circle under the overpass of highway 113.  There were also a bunch of empty beer cans around.  Since the convenient milk-crate seats were apearantly inspiring a litter problem I loaded them up in my van and have been using them for storage, saw horses, ect, ever since.   Just keep your eyes open.

At the time, as a graduate student, my GAF didn't go down because of milk crates as patio furnishings...  Funny that the GAF changed on it's head when it became WAF. :smt017

mendohead - thanks for the offer. If I can't come up with something soon by other means, I'd be more than happy to take you up on it.
