Since I'll be hitting the bay for sturgeon soon I decided I want to anchor up from the stern so I can face my bait.

This is what I came up with.  The yellow line is a yoke.  There is a loop in the middle and each end is attached to a float.

I put a caribeener style clip on the center eyelet on both sides of the tankwell and doubled the bouy line through the clip and up to the handle.

For a quick release I run a ballpoint pen (for now) through the handle and run the line around it.  A pull of the pen releases the line and it runs through the clip and free of the boat.

I tested it out today on Lake Cunningham.  With the exception of the rear handle getting in the way once or twice the release worked great.  I'm gonna rework the handle so its removeable.  Re-rigging the anchor line while on the water was easy as the clip is within reach.  The only problem is I need to test it out in heavy currents to see how the yak will react.  I'm running ten feet of shock cord to absord windwaves and boatwakes.  Other than that I might lengthen the yoke or just run the line up one side and sit crooked in the water.  Any advice?  Hows your yak behaving in the current?

I attach / hook a bungee cord between two eye loops and then I attach my main anchor line (with a quick release clip) directly to the bungee cord.

I clip the anchor on the stern side and fish with the current.

How much of an angle?  Is your line stilll pretty much in front of you? If you swing side to side how does that affect your positioning?  Your bow ever cross over your line?  I only ask cause when I used my drift chute I would tie off to one side.  The result was many weird angles and bad hooksets.  Plus if I do set into a sturgy I don't want to flip over the side.

Scwa, that sticker is developing quite a cult following.

I anchored off the side last time and it just about rolled me in the ripping san pablo current.  I moved it behind my seat and that was a tad better, but I still felt uneasy.  It's like waterskiing endlessly.

Here's my version of the agarcia style.  I made a yolk that clips onto the rear seat clips and has a loop in the center for hooking the anchor line.  I got the line at and hook/clip at Home Depot for less than $10.  The line even came with the spool thingy.

Here's a closeup fo the hook/clip.  It looks perfect.  Hopefully it works!
