Dibs on your new yak  :smt003

Bro!  We could share.  There is so much room on this thing, we can just go out together.  One of us could work the bilge pump while the other fished!   :smt003

If that's the case, I'll tag along as the fish finder and just swim behind you two...

Check the front hatch bungee screw, might not have been sealed correctly according to this person on the Hobie forum.

Pool noodles and bilge pump.  Make sure you can easily use the bilge pump but dont let it float away.
I agree with most folks, that water looks alright.   8 miles after you find water inside?  That's a No!

How was he overloading that kayak?  With the 20 pounds of ice?  The weight capacity of an outback is what? over 400 lbs?  That guy is not a big guy, probably not even 200 pounds.  No way it was overloaded.  Yes, he did have a lot of gear, but not heavy gear.  Show me 45lb lead acid batteries, trolling motors, downriggers, downrigger weights, and now we have an overloaded kayak.

Like others have said its got a manufacturer defect somewhere that needs to be fixed.  I wouldn't let this deter you from going offshore in your outback.

Funny how those gulf guys talk about how "rough" the water is when they have water splashing over the side/front of the boat.  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

We California guys have seen worst conditions on some of our lakes! Man looks like a defect to me. He should have never gotten that much water inside the hull in those conditions.
Plus if he really wanted to fish, point your bow with the current dude and then just do a turn around and do it again. You would have never gotten any water inside that way.
My daughter has been on the Pacific in a Sportsman in worst conditions and that and stuck the beach landing!

So I have been keeping my eyes peeled on this one.  After my testing, I did get some water, but not a ton.  Still, I feel like it should be do-able to seal it up better.  Reading on the hobie forums, they may upgrade the seal on these kayaks to make it better, but havent confirmed yet.

Here is another test, seems like significantly more intense conditions if you are interested.

He had a bilge pump. Watch the video again.  :smt006
As he stated, he had to stop multiple times to pump the water out.  :smt003

I think all the water in the kayak was because the guy was pissing himself because of the "rough water."

Sometimes it's hard to tell what the true conditions are through the lens of a camera. I would not classify that as extreme conditions with 50 mph winds. A few whitecaps with spaced out 5 to 6 foot swells. The shore break only counts as shore break. This seems to me where the water comes heavy over the prow. Overly dramatic for my taste.
