I went out paddling (not fishing)this morning with my wife in Capitola.  There were a lot of boats out but didn't talk to anyone catching fish.  The water was nice when we got there about 0830.  The wind came up about 1100.  Bring a drift sock if you have one.  I wish I could join you but  I have to work all week.  Good luck

Jarod

I was just checking the posts before I load up to go out of Capitola by the Wharf tomorrow -Tuesday-maybe 6:30am.  I'm going to head down to New Brighton and try to prove that AKAKimo didn't catch the only hali out there.  A big one like his would be nice, but I'll settle for anything legal.
I was at the cement ship last nite-non yak- and they were hauling in buckets full of sardines, and it was inspiring watching the birds, sea lions and dolphins all munching on the bait balls.  Ch 69 Green P15 with the yellow NCKA eyes (I need to take a flic!).

Goodluck out there. I might launch at NB @ noon and try to make some bait for the mid day bite.

Kimo: What a difference a couple of days make.  Launched at Cap, paddled straight to your spot,
looked for bait for most of an hour, a few solo diving birds, but nothing under them I could see or hook, then used squid and bumped all around the NB area, finally got a jack smelt but it only lasted 10 mins and got snagged.   Trolled spoons, lures, sardine swim baits toward Cap and then around the kelp west of the wharf, then up to Oneill's and out up to 50 ft, then into the kelp.  Just nothing.  And several other yaks out got nothing too, and I saw no action off the skiffs and PB's.  Never saw any bait, tho there were a few stray marks on my finder.  I even passed a solo diver (Hey, that sea lion has a snorkle!- off a boat, no flag.) and he said he dives out there a couple of times of week- out a little west of the wharf -at the edge of thekelp, and he said he hadn't seen any fish all day, and normally is able to see them if they are there.
I launched at 6:30, landed at 12:30, at one point late in the morning I took a little nap out there it was so calm, but the wind really came up at noon, maybe 12-15mph.
I'm not going out there again without at least a few frozen sardines, if not live ones.
