So my truck is sick.... I have to replace wheel bearings tomorrow, left side sounds BAD and Im thinking thats what it is...and figure out why the check engine light came on coming back from Bean, Im a maintenance nut with my old truck so its not oil or something like that....
Santa Cruz is a no-go for me, however I have some items for the raffle, paintings, a float tube for flycasting and an offshore boat rod n reel. Is anyone coming south? I could meet you at the San Rafael exit.......

I'll bet the check engine light has something to do with smog. Oxygen sensor would be my guess. May need to hook up to testing unit to be sure.

Good luck
Ben

If it's on one side it may be a bad brake. Broke or completely worn out pad rubbing on rotor. As far as the Check engine. That means a smog related item. Bad o2 sensor or other sensor, misfire, bad plug or wire. Check engine throws codes to the computer. Hope it's minor.

Brakes have another year on them, and the bearings were checked when the brakes got done so Il be taking it apart myself, it sure sounds like a bearing, thats the easy one... I have to bring it in for the light sensor, I was thinking smog too, or vacuum ??....

Have you been in the dirt lately? Could be a rock jammed in there somewhere. I've been throughall of this before. That is why I just keep throwing out ideas. I also do lots of mechanical on cars.

If the bearings need to be repacked, you'd notice some crazy wobble/bouncy action (like your driving over washboard). Especially in a pickup. My truck is sick too. Maybe we can piece them together to form 1 healthy truck? Like Voltron!

Throw in my POS Explorer with the wasted lower ball joints, and we should be able to create a nice land yacht....

I saved about 6 bills doing my wheel bearing myself Ben.  Its easy to diagnose, jack front end up, one hand at top of tire and the other at the bottom and try to rock or wobble it.  Any play and its definitely a bearing. I was actually pretty easy, about 2 hours.  I got jackstands, the sockets (even the big ass socket for the axle nut) and torque wrenches if you wanna give it a go yourself and save some dough.

Hope you get it figured out. In my experience wheel bearings sound worse when you swerve one way or the other. Get's loud going left and queit oing right, that would most likely be a bearing. Good luck.

Not enough info to go on, but does not sound wheel bearing like. As the previous poster said jack it up and see if there is play. No play, grab a flashlight and get in there if you can see the brake pads, or see if the wear indicator is rubbing the disk.  If it looks close it most likely needs Pads and or new disks or turining the old ones.
