Adam, I meant that the frog was swallowed by the bass and then the bass managed to spit the hook. I still have my lucky Clear Lake Special frog.
 Do you guys know the origin of that color? It mimics the colors of the Yellow-headed blackbird, particular to Clear Lake. They also have a very unique call.

Crazy.  I've seen topwater lures in Oregon that were designed to mimic red-winged blackbirds.

I know this is a SUPER old thread, but I might as well ask here anyways - what type of rod do you guys like using to throw topwater frogs from a kayak?  Most of the information I've been seeing/reading lately is either for shore fishing or from a bass boat where you're higher off the water.

The recommendations I'm seeing suggest a 7' to 7'6" MH rod with a fast tip.  They cautioned getting anything longer than that because the tip would hit the water while fishing.  Would the same rod specs still apply for a kayak?

Just about any beefy rod will work for frogs. You just need something with enough backbone to drag a fish back to the boat through the muck. I'd go 6'6" to 7'0", MH or even H. If it's not a frog-specific rod (stiff/beefy), you might want to opt for H.
