Jumped in the water after work yesterday to look for halibut since I am now 0 for 13 on striper dives this year.  :smt010

As soon as I loaded my gun and was getting situated a nice butt spooked off to my right.

Didn't take off at light speed so took a shot...no dice.

Dove past sunset, but that was my only sighting.

Caught the flyer on vid though...hazy viz so not crystal clear but still fun to capture them on vid if can't bring one home for dinner.

Hopefully next time!!

Sincerely,

Jim

ps....I've landed a shot on a flyer like that before but this time I think my shaft just whizzed right over her head.

This vid shows my PB butt that I got on a shot like that...and a few other fish from the same day, including a miss on one I spooked...guess sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't?!  :smt044

Dang....you'll geetum...spearing Hali seems quite the challenge.  My eyes would not be able to find them.  Maybe it's a spook fly spear thing or probably more of a see and pin thing.   :smt006

Don't feel bad Jim. I went 0-15 for halibut last year.
And to add insult to injury it seemed everyone was getting them easily.
I got my revenge this year. Hahaha (evil laugh)

It's all good...just crazy that I have seen way more halibut this year than I have stripers?!?

At least I got one butt already this year...more than I got last year!  :smt002 :smt044

I'm only diving in one small part of the 831 area code...I know guys further north have been having more luck with the stripers...maybe I need to explore north before season is over.....

I think I will give a few more tries for butts though next week...my father in law really likes them, and I ate the one I shot a few weeks ago without him and I don't think he was too happy about it.

Thanks for the Hali scouting report Jim.  I have no doubt you will get them soon.
