Is this a southern California calico bass caught all the way up here in capitola ?

I guess with all the sheep head and trigger fish being caught, I shouldn't be surprised.

Times a changin.

Looks like a sand bass.

Be really careful with unusual bass, there are juvenile black sea bass which are a no take species.

I have never seen a bass like that caught in this area before.

Definitely wouldn't keep a fish I couldn't Id. Wouldn't take the chance. But thanks for the heads up Doug. I am new to the forum.  :smt005

Sorry,  I am practicing for that asshole trip with pole pole next year.  :smt003

Little off the subject . I haven't seen much of black rockfish here in the carmel area . Tons of blues though. Guess the 2 limit on blacks was definitely needed

That's a barred sand bass.

I shot one in Monterey a few months ago...

Calicos, sheep, barred sand bass, triggerfish are almost common to find up here these days...ok, maybe not common... :smt005

Sincerely,

Jim
