I have an extremely bad back, full blown out rupture on both L4 and L5. On the market for a new kayak. It's now between the wilderness systems thresher and the Jackson kraken. The seat on the kraken looks way more comfortable. Has anyone had any experience with the seat on the thresher? Also how much really does one foot make on a kayak. The thresher comes in the 14 and 15. Again bad back every pound counts carrying around.

Bad back I would look at an eddyline  I had a 14' wilderness 80 lbs sold it bought an 14' Caribbean is 50 lbs faster more stable I can pick it through it over my shoulder and Carrie it to the beach. No rudder guides through the kelp. And has a very nice seat  I like the seat so much I remove it and use it on my stealth pro fisha it the only seat I found that works in my stealth.

I have been using the seat that  is on the Thresher now for 2 years. It is the same seat that comes on the Tarpon series. It is comfortable for sure. It appears to sit lower than the Kraken too. Don't know for sure.  I have not been on the Kraken seat. As far as 1 foot difference I believe it makes a big difference. I can say it does not and try to lead to to the shorter Thresher to cut down on weight, but there is a difference. I paddled both the Tarpon 140-160 all weekend and the longer boat was a lot better. The bigger Thresher is 10 pounds lighter than the Kraken including seat and has a 50 pound heavier payload capacity. Bottom line is that you need to sit in and paddle both of the boats. Not just sit in one in the store. Also, paddle more than 100'. Try to stay in it as long as the shop will let you.

The gravity seat on the FeelFree is the most comfortable seat I've ever tried and adjusts to different heights. My L4 and L5 are both herniated and degenerated, so I understand the back issues. I've never had an uncomfortable day in the seat. Maybe wishing I had waited for the longer version of the Lure to come out.
