Have anyone done kayak fishing in the delta by Rio Vista to Antioch and what have you use to catch fish? And is it safe to kayak there? I've catch fish from shore but seen low and high tie and high winds but never seen any kayaker but wanting to try to pull in a sturgeon or striper on my yak.. Any info is helpful.
I think I know what I’m doing?

In that area, you can launch at Viera's, which is upstream from Rio Vista a little ways, and on the opposite side of the Sac. Or Sherman Island, which is downstream, where the SJ enters the Sac. I've launched at both numerous times. I like Sherman Island better - better structure, etc., although the area around Viera's is very cool too.

If you live north of the delta, you can launch at Collinsville, which is on the north side more or less opposite Antioch - I've never done that but always been intrigued.

I've heard of folks launching from the west side of the Sac above Rio Vista, and it looks like there is quite a bit of legally accessible space there, but I've never done it.

I mostly launch further inland in more protected areas to avoid the wind hazard.

Let us know how you do.
Bill

Thanks I will have to try that at both boat launch and see where it's best, I have caught a sturgeon on Sherman island under the powerlines but would be awesome to go farther into the river and use a fish finder to really get to know the delta. I'll try both area and take pictures if I catch any and again Thanks!

The launch opposite of Antioch that I think you are talking about is on Sherman island road, just about 4 miles north side of the Antioch brisdge off of hwy 160. I've launched there a few times infusing today. Rough road getting in, narrow with lots of bank fisherman, but ends at a decent facility with an iron ranger, bathroom, parking lot, and concrete launch ramp with a dock. Fishing between the two small islands west if the launch was good today for one 35 (not measured yet?) inch striper on live mud sucker.
