Being new to this board, I'd like to introduce myself and say hello to everyone. My name is Herb and today I purchased my very first fishing yak. I've been a surf angler for as far as I can remember. 2 years ago, a friend/coworker of mine introduced me to Bass fishing and it opened a lot of doors for me. Then I've learned of kayak fishing but didn't know where to start. This site gave me a general idea of how things are. I still have a whole lot to learn and I wish in the near future that I can yak-fish amongst you guys. For now, I'm just going to start building my skills and fish small waters and go from there.

Thanks! Right now I'm just slowly building my arsenal. The weather's been nasty on and off so I'm going to wait it out. I'm definitely taking those safety classes when I get the chance. Right now, time to clear my dungeon aka garage to make some space.

Welcome Herb!  You will no doubt love kayak fishing, it is a lot of fun.  Welcome to sleepless nights and day dreams, with nothing but the next adventure on your mind.

Outfitting your new kayak is a lot of fun, as well and trying and learning new things.

What kayak did you buy, and where are you from? Keep an eye on local hook-up where you live for some great guys to fish with.  The tourneys are always a great time, and you can really learn a lot!

Hope to see you around,

Matt

Thanks guys. MattS, I am in Daly City. My wife and I went to Clavey's up in Petaluma. I picked up a Trident 13 Angler with rudder for $989. I think thats a great price plus he (Scott) gave me 15% off accessories/gears plus some freebies and a whole lot of advice. We mostly fish the Delta for LMB, and occassionaly Berryessa, Clear Lake, and Del Valle. I normally tow my friend's boat but his bass boat is shot right now and I am looking for alternative ways to fish. Then I realized these yaks aren't exactly lightweight coming off the roof of a truck. I guess its time to hit the gym.

Welcome brother Herb. As my friend said while trying to fold up a tarp at the beach yesterday," GRAB A CORNER AND HANG ON". good times are coming your way.
