Hello, I'm Greg, and I live in Napa about 10 days a months, the rest in Central Louisiana.  I brought my Native Magic 14.5 in January, but have yet to figure out the fishing scene over here.  In La I fish for trout, redfish and flounder in the brackish marsh, and bass, crappie and panfish in the lakes and bayous.  I also do some bow hunting and small game hunting in La.  Looking forward to getting some tips on the outdoor scene here in Northern Ca.

Welcome to NCKA. You split time between two fantastic parts of the country. Are you a Saints fan? Come to  the Albion Open Aug 9-11 to meet over 100 of the membership, if you can.

Welcome Mung,

Live in Napa full time here. You have a lot of great opportunities at your doorstep. The Napa river has a solid striped bass and sturgeon population during the seasons. You have Berryessa less than a hour away as a great freshwater fishery for bass, trout and landlocked salmon. Finally the coast is an hour to the west for great ocean fishing not to mention Dungeness crab during the season. For hunting we have the Napa Sonoma marsh and sac a short drive away for great duck hunting and a solid population of blacktail deer as well. We do have hogs as well but nothing like the populations in Louisiana.  Welcome to the neighborhood. I am sure you will find all of this will keep you busy!

Best,
Phil

Saints fan?

Amos:  yes, longtime Saints fan and LSU grad.  I will be back in La by Aug. 9, so will miss that, but will keep and eye on events and make one in the future.  I have fished alot of Bayou Coast KFC events here in LA.

Phil: I am trying to figure out the fishing/hunting.  Seems quite a bit more difficult with access and public land here, but I will catch on eventually.  Saw a nice herd of deer at Westwood Hills Park the other day.  Looking for stand location now.  ;-)

Greg,

To my knowledge hunting access swill be a bit more of a challenge for you out here vs what you may have experienced in Louisiana.  You may have different access than I but to my knowledge Westwood is off limits. Your most accessible public spots around here would be rector, Napa/Sonoma marsh, cedar roughs, putah creek, Knoxville and mendocino national forest. You can also hog hunt with a bow at lake Sonoma part of the year. I may have missed a few other spots as well. It's a crowded state so quality public land spots are few and far between.

Most guys are spot and stalk hunters around here but some use stands. Our local blacktail population are not quite as habitual in behavior compared to whitetails so they can be a bit tougher to pattern and take from a stand but if you find some active trails luck may shine on you. Good luck and happy hunting.

Feel free to PM if you get stuck and have any questions.

Best,
Phil

Thanks for the tips.  I was joking about Westwood.  Skyline would be better.  ;-)

I have not even brought my bow over yet, as i still hunt in La.  Was just getting prepared if i move here full time.

I looked at the bowseason for deer last year, and it seemed like July/August?  Am i confused?  Seems really early, but I have no idea when your rut is over here.

Yeah you right!

Good to see another Saints fan on here. I'm from New Orleans and all my folks are still back there. I get back there at least once or twice a year, but have been out here off and on since 1994.

If you ever want to get out down around Monterey/Carmel just let me know.

Sincerely,

Jim
