so did an exploratory crab and hallie drift (i know, i know wayyy too early).

Crabs are a crawling.  I got four for dinner to about 7", then headed home.  no hallies, not even a bump

just a single danielson...chicken, herring, and a swingin can of friskies tuna.

I pulled the pot in about one hour- so it was a really short soak

That's a damn good catch for such short soak.  I gotta give Muir a try.  Steve, let me know when you go next.

How far out/deep were you?  I recall it getting deep relatively quickly from when I was there last spring for salmon.

my first drop was in abut 30, I pulled it quick and there were rock crabs, so I moved south and out to about 38. Down it went.

There was also a lot of bait inbetween the big rock and the north side of the cove-- good omen for hallies and salmon later in the year

The salmon really like to push the bait into the cove there.  One day out with Erik the bait was so thick it was hard to find a place where your anchovy could stand out from the others.

Absolutely!

I can recall years when you could almost walk on the chovies!  Last year you could see the school from the cliffs above.

That's part of the reason there are so many hallies, and crabs in there.  Last year ChuckE and I both caught crabs on live anchovies!
If you fish close into the cove be careful of catching silvers and steelhead-- there is now quite a good sized population of fish that go up the creek there now.  Last year there were some nice sized steelhead under the bridge for weeks....
