The Meadows is great for drop - shotting in the weedbeds.  Very weedy.  Son caught a surprise 10# non yak LMB bass there three years ago.  Most fish are in 1-3 lb. range.  Be careful as some boaters will speed through there even though it is 5 mph zone most of the way in----don't park on blind corners.  If you want some smallie action - the rocky banks of the Old Sac. using small hardbaits and spinnerbaits will often produce some good bites.  Best doing that during the week though because of boat traffic.  Good Luck

If you fish behind Bryan you wont catch anything. He'll already have caught them. :smt044 :smt044 :smt006 The trick is to fish next to him. :smt003

Yes, I have experienced this technique!  On a rare occasion the bass will mistake your lure for his  :smt044

Hey troutnut, thanks for the info. Where exactly is Disco Bay ? I tried looking at map of Discovery bay to no avail. Is it actually located inside the community ? Also best place to launch (kayak) there and/or any free places to launch at Discovery ? Thanks in advance.

Edit: Disco bay is short for Discovery Bay   My bad.

Mike I'm thinking in front of Hobie Blue, not much left after the vaccum has gone thru... :smt002 Fishing the delta with a kayak can be as simple as finding a spot you can hump your yak down to the water and start fishing the are right around with in sight of your rig. Fish it slow and thouroghly. They are everywhere. It's so expansive, and the habitat is everywhere. I found the most interesting thing was learning to fish with currents and tides...

Here is a Google Earth image of the launch and a link to a pushpin. Click on the .kmz file, it will open in GE. If it can't find what file to open in, you need to download Google Earth. Get the free version. After you open the link, you can right click your mouse on the Disco Bay Launch Ramp icon, and left click "directions to here" and it will give you Google Maps directions. You just drive on Marina Drive until you come to a "T" intersection at a fence, turn LEFT and drive past all the dry storage boats to the ramp. Bring exact change. Leave no trash. If the homeowners association gets pissed, they lock it up.

Was thinking about checking out little Frank's tract and was wondering where people park?  Looking at the Google street view image, is it possible to park at the end of Bethel Island Rd. and launch the yak right there or is the bank too steep?

Funny funny funny guys... :smt044

There are sooo many places to fish the Delta...pick a few spots and get to know them through the seasons.  Bass don't migrate, so learn the different staging spots of each season.  Also pick a spot that is close to you whenever possible, you won't spend as much on gas, and so you can spend more time on the water.  Like the others said, the bass are pretty much everywhere, but they are getting harder to find for some reason.

Be wary of levee-parking.  I have seen some nasty looking people (this year they are bringing their young'ins with them too) firing shotguns and other semi-assult? weapons at little birds, road signs, and whatever looks fun to shoot at, like unattended cars.  And I sometimes I see the cars, or the burned out shells that use to be cars, on the levees or in the drink.  There are ramps that are free, some that are $5, and some that are $10, and I won't go to one that charges more!.  Some places charge half for yaks, and at some you can get a buy 10 at a discount.  Ask the owners.

Good luck,

HB (the pontificating C&R bass angler)

I wouldn't park there, not with all those marinas in the area. $10 a launch is cheap insurance. Russo's marina is less than a 1 mile paddle/peddle from Little Franks opening, I try to plan it to drift with the tide going there and back to Russo's on the incoming.  A nice beer or two from the store on the dock, what could be better. I have camped at Russo's, a good place for a kayak outing and BBQ. When I park for the day, if I bring the kayaks, I park up by their house (top of the levee, turn left). No one ever messes with my stuff there. Cheap insurance if you ask me.

Found this old thread on the Delta and wondering if anyone has any areas in the "North" Delta (North of Stockton) that they can recommend. :smt006

I haven't fished on the mokelumne side but I've launched from hogback before and it was a good time. From my experience with the north delta Sac side (which seemed to be confirmed by others ) is that it's a numbers but not size area. In the few times I've gone it's been full of little smallies/spots/largies if you fish down the rip rap. I've caught better largies in the weedy slackwater with timber but nothin the size that people routinely get in the delta delta. Aaron Leisure has a few good videos on youtube about getting started in both the sac and mokelumne (they can be a bit cheesy but have some good info) and I think informative fisherman has a video about smallmouth fishing on the sac river that's gotta be somewhere in the viera's/hogback/walnut grove area.

When I fish there I cover water fast: crankbaits, topwaters, small swimbaits, hard and soft jerkbaits and I generally pick fish up one here one there all up and down the channels. On the rocks or off the rocks, the water tends to be clearer and smallies and spots I catch seem like they've wandered off cover. If you wanted to slow down I'm sure small jigs, worms (dropshots/shakyhead), or tubes would also catch em especially on the rocky areas
