Hey, by chance, anybody going out this Saturday out of HMB have one or two spare DD6 that they can sell me? I'll be there about 4:30/5 AM. Too late for Amazon Prime, checked at Dick's, Big 5 and all local bait shops in the area and nothin'
I'm in the SF area and willing to come to you tonight or tomorrow night. Or again, I'll be paddling out of the jaws early this Saturday.
Thanks in advance!!!!
-
did you try calling Hi's? I wish I could help, I have 3 of them right now but I'm not planning to fish sat and I won't be coming into the office for work tomorrow.
-
btw Wal mart sells the original d6, not the dd6. But the fish have been shallow enough that the original would probably work.
-
I'm planning to go out as well - I've got a spare Pink Lady diver that you can borrow. It's caught salmon in the past. Probably be there by 5:30 at the old pier.
Cheers,
Brad
-
They have them at Petaluma Sport Shop & Dive, or did two days ago. That might be farther than you want to drive though. I will probably be at HMB at 5 on Saturday, but can't guarantee it.
-
Thx Brad! I'd prefer that than the banana sinker. And Walmart is a bit out of my range right now. Closest one is in Mtn View. Thats just not an option with the kids, homework, dinner, bath, daddy duties..
-
No worries - glad to help.
-
Thx. It's me and my buddy. We'll be out there rigging up a blue and sand colored Malibu Yak. Two filipino dudes in a grey Tacoma and White Denali. I'll also be on ch 69. We'll buy em off of you.
-
You care what color? You need two?
-
We tried Hi's, Gus, New Coastside. Nothing!
And color? Beggers cant be choosers. Rather use any available color than the banana weight.
-
And yes, 2 please

That's the size that Cal caught his on, bout' 3oz ?
-
You coming out again Eddie?
Jeff
-
Fisherman's Warehouse or Bass Pro Shop in San Jose ... FW closed early but has better choices, but BPS stays open later than FW.
-
It's 3.5 oz.

I wish brah, gotta cut hair like a maniac on Saturdays, get two will ya? :smt006
-
Its just gonna have to work. Thanks again!

Might be worth calling West Marine in Oakland. They have some salmon fishing gear.
I personally like the 7-oz Double Deep Six (the heavier version of the smaller size). But like others said, with the fish biting shallow just about any diver should do the trick.

Thx for the input Alex. Didnt even think about West Marine
-
I saw some at the tackle shop at HMB last Saturday, they were selling them for $19.95 each.
:(
-
That's a ripoff, but still a whole lot cheaper than dropping lead!

Of course West Marine near me doesnt have any. But West Marine in Alameda does. Just my luck. That is just way too far.
-
At 19.95? Wow..thats why its in stock. Lol!
-
OK, I got you 2 DD6. See you Saturday. Grey Ford f250, grey camo Trident 13.
-
You are a savior! I got you!

FW closes at 8pm on Thursdays.

Yup, 4inch 3.5oz pink. :smt001

Looked online, West Marine's website. Said that they had a couple in stock. The young lady went to check, nothin'. Manager got on the phone and said "unfortunately the inventory online doesn't account for theft" Lol! Damn dishonest fisherman!!

they're not much cheaper on amazon. what's the retail on them anyways, $12.99?
-
$15 or so..
-
Walmart sells deep six divers for 15 bucks and they close at midnight. if you can't make it to fishermans in time Walmart is key. I've also found that dicks sporting goods has salmon gear but not sure if they have any divers.

Nothing up toward here, SF area

Alternatively, just use a sliding sinker setup, 10oz, just more lines. Like AlexB said, the fish is so shallow.

A 1-lb ball with a 3-way swivel and dropper would do just fine. Similar to a bounceball rig for halibut. You'd have a dangling ball to watch out for when you're netting the fish, but that's definitely not a deal breaker.
Heavy lead on droppers (not releases) is a pretty standard way to catch salmon in the estuaries up north (Columbia, etc) where the fish are often holding around 15-25 feet down. No reason it wouldn't work here, too, when the fish are at a similar depth.

Just throwing this out there... I fully realize it's off topic...
If you like having local tackle shops in your neighborhood (or any kind of local shop for that matter)... STOP SHOPPING AT WALMART AND SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES!!!
(End rant...)

Lol. I think most people rather go to local BS first anyways. Not only are you supporting local businesses they usually know the scoop on whats going on on the water. You cant go into Dick's Walmart or Big 5 and ask the 18 year old kid at the register what are the fish biting on today.

you go where you can. he tried all those other ones but they were sold out. I don't have many tackle stores locally that are open any time that I can actually go. I go to FW in Manteca any time I can, but the tri-valley is a fishing store desert. We only have guns fishing and other stuff, and they're only "OK". They didn't carry deep six the last time i visited, and they recently cut their hours of operation. I'll buy my annie's mac and cheese wherever i feel like.
-
Just crazy glue 1oz sinkers on both side of the regular deep six for now.
-
Thanks for the help and tips folks. See you out on the water tomrrow!

I put a snap swivel in the front and hung a torpedo weight 4-5oz from mine...

Hey folks! My buddy Ron and I are going to fire up the mini grill near the picnic tables by the yak rental area (if permissible) after fishing HMB. If that's not an option we'll fire it up in his or my truck bed. We'll have chicken tacos going. Feel free to come on by and grab some grub and say hello. Obviously I haven't met most of you and we figure this would be a good way to do that. Dont be shy!!! Come on over!! Look for two Filipino dudes grillin it upon your return from the waters!! :smt006
Jeff

I'll be grilling up some hot dogs and sausages, as well.
Come find us in the upper parking lot.
-
What - no one's planning on grilling a fresh salmon filet?
-
Sounds good!!!! If we're in sync upon coming back we'll just put it together if you'd like. We can discuss that on the radio when we call it quits.
-
See you there.
-
Lol. I havent hooked a chromie yet!! Im on a mission though!
-
HMB has tackle store opens at 5 AM I think. I saw them carrying DD but a little pricey. I'm planning on being there tomorrow. see you guys.

Its gonna be!! My buddy is bringing his grill and Im bringing everything else. Make sure you all come by. I dont want to bring any meat home as it will get wasted. (When it comes to meat, I only consume what I catch or kill)
I know it sounds funny to some but it works for me..
-
I'll be there! Been scrambling to get the gear together but it came out nicely. Still kinda confused as to where to launch but it'll work out. See you there dark and early!

Steve, if you are there between 5-6 AM you will see alot of kayak traffic. Unload by the kayak rental place and park above at the lot. Send me a PM and I'll shoot you my number. Or you can always hit us up on the radio.

Just came from the store. Got boneless chicken, a few thin sliced pork chops, a few shrimp skewers, salsa, guac and tortillas! Come feast with us after and share your story of the day with us!!

how did today go?

Was on the water at 6 and started trolling south east. Pick up a 12-13lbs'r within the first 15 mins! Pretty exciting to be netting a fish in the dark under the stars. Thought is was going to be a quick limit, pic up a few rockies and go home. Nope. An hour went by and finally picked up another one but it was undersized. Trolled all day ended it with three more scraped baits. Only saw one fish netted and the radio was super quiet. Slow for most.
Fish were in 45fow on a DD straight bait on a chrom crippled anchovy. Did get to watch a guy and his chick pull in a small thrasher. Asked me if i wanted it. He thought it was trash. Convinced him to keep it.

Way to go Steve!
I'm glad you got out there
