I'm in the process of making my own sabiki rod and want to use the foam grip and hand assembly of a boat rod whose upper half broke. How can i remove the rod portion from the handle assembly.

Thanks,
~Elric

You probably cannot remove a foam grip and reel seat without destroying them.

If the rod is really old, you might try dipping the grip in boiling water, then quickly working it to see if you can loosen the adhesive.  It probably won't work, and in that case you won't be able to remove them.

Goes to shows you what I know about building rods, or in this case, dimantling them. Luckily, I found that if i strip the threads off, the piece of plastic tubing that I have will slide snugly over the existing pole.
I might manage to build this sabiki rod yet.
BTW, I saw how well Chuck's sabiki rod worked, it was sweet and just the right price.

Elric, did you see me cast that thing?  I was also surprised at how well it worked. :smt033
