Took my infant son to mess around at case de fruta yesterday. Surprised to see the variety of fish they have in the little pond. Big koi/ goldfish, bluegill (I think), something looked like a large pikeminnnow (or trout lol).

Then I spotted this mystery guy.  I'd estimate about 15 inches, suspended out in mid pond, solo.  Markings looked like a spotted but then cd a bass live in such tight warm somewhat filthy quarters w a bunch other fish?

FYI one pic is naked iPhone the other take thru my polarized glasses

My dad has had Koi ponds all my life, and koi when the racoons didn't eat them all.  When living in Willow Glenn we had a large pond with 30+ koi in them.  After a some reproducing, started getting some black ones in there. Could just be a dark koi is what i'm thinking.

Its most likely a largemouth bass. It could also be a spot, but I doubt it.

Bass can live in some pretty dank water, and it does have a bassy profile. However, Koi can be black or dark brown, and Goldfish can be dark too, and get freaking huge in ponds. It's really hard to tell what it is from the picture, but I'd wager goldfish.

Hard to tell. You can just make out a dot around the gill area.

Hard to tell.

Not for someone who stares at fish all day :smt003. It's a black bass.

I stare at fish all day. 5 days a week lately. I still can't say for sure what it is from that picture. Could be a freaking dolphin if you look at it right.  :smt002

Does anyone ever see tilapia this far north? They seem to be able to live in really degraded water...
