Amazing time!!!!
Great turnout, TONS of awesome prizes, beautiful conditions OTW, big fun had by all paddlers grilling hotdogs, baby octopus, enjoying drinks and loving life out there together!!
:smt004
The grandprize JK Cuda14 was won by PORKY!!! :smt007
Nobody could believe it but it happened!!
He only had a few tickets in the whole raffle (actually donated by JustRoberts and a few other folks) and we spun the HECK out of the ticket hopper...his daughter Hailey reached in...and pulled out his ticket!!
SO COOL!! Now they have an awesome new kayak!!!
He felt bad and wanted to give it back and I told him heck no!!! :smt003
Huge thanks to all who donated prizes, bought tickets, came out to show support and love.
You are all awesome!!
Raised a ton of $$ for little Hailey as well!!!
Ended up with $2,593 in the Paypal account, and $5,820 collected in cash and checks for a total of $8,413 raised!!
Before the event we raised (through AOTY/DOTY registration fees, donations, GS8 silent auction and Softtub raffle ticket sales) $6,653 that we already gave to the Pass family.
The $8,413 from the actual PIF event combined with the $6,653 already given, gives us a new total of $15,066 raised for Hailey Pass.

Thank you all for coming and showing love for our daughter Hailey,, I cant express myself enough on how much that means to us. Hailey is very special to us and to see all that love for her really made us feel good, I think any parent can understand that. Showing that kind of love and support for a child is amazing, specially when its yours. Hailey is a great kid and she had a WONDERFUL time, she left very tired but feeling very loved. When Jim started the raffle and spoke about Hailey when she was so sick, its was pretty emotional as you could tell by my wifes speech, very tough to hold back the tears! I was very proud of her for getting up and speaking because there is no way I could have held it together long enough to do what she did. I wish I could express my gratitude better, but We are so very thankful. You are all great people for doing such a wonderful thing for us. The financial help is amazing and even more so the love and support. Weve never experienced anything like that in our lives, I hope Joel was able to experience it all, hed be very proud and with out him and you all none of this would have happened. Like I said, were pretty taken back by it all.
Onto the raffle, well not sure what to say! Feels very awkward, but warm and fuzzy at the same time. First off, thank you to who ever bought us a raffle ticket? As we did not buy any for obvious reasons. Hailey picking that winning ticket was just plain insanity, not even sure what happened is possible and a complete shock to us, maybe Joel had his hand in that box with Hailey :) I like to think so at least. If you were present you could see we were in disbelief and trying to desperately to re-spin before Big Jim grabbed my arms and raised them and drug me around like a rag doll :) Ugh! Not even sure what to say...... Please know that kayak is in santa cruz and ANY one of you can use it if you come to santa cruz to fish, just swing by our house. If anyone is as uncomfortable as I was :) about what happened, please let me know. Thank you to whoever bought that ticket... Not sure what to say!
Hailey also took home a really cool stone fish plaque made by Ben and LilRiverMan gave her a very cool hand carved wood sea horse which she also loves. Like I said she came home feeling very loved, which means the world to us. Still very emotional.
Jim, how do i post a iphone video, hailey made for you all?

Wow,
That is truly PIF, I don't know what to say… JustRobberts, I'm speechless, you are the man and so glad you have found us,
I'm just overwhelmed at how "The Giving" that happens with this group with PIF and HOW and other things we do as a group, really builds a indescribable, incredible
"Magic…." we have saying at the PTSD retreat and buttons that say "FM", it stands for "Fucking Magic!"… as we can't explain what happens in the transformation of people, but when others give of themselves, to others … something just seems to happen beyond ourselves and all one can say is..
F$$##@ Magic…!!!
Well if this is not proof in the pudding…
I don't know what is…
Strong work Jim, Everyone else who helped and donated and most of all to Porky and little Haley…
I was looking for a extended family in the Fire Department, I did not really find it till I found NCKA…
So proud to be a part of y'all :smt006
A shot of our silent Hero just after being bitten by the Madness!!!
WTG JustRobberts!!!

PIF was more than expected. Porky and family looked great and it was an honor to personally meet you all. Your wife's speech had me :smt010, it was awesome.
-
WTG JustRobberts ,that was indeed a magic moment and you sure did help to build it...
I found/find myself amazed and Amy and I wanting to do more or better plan our involvement for the next P.i.f or like event,,,riding the p.i.f wave today for sure!!!
the buying of tickets for the family is terrific idea...I will for sure remember this one
-
Much love

:smt006, proud and glad to have joined this group, met wonderful people working for a great cause! Thank you, Jim.
"Amy and Craig", thank you again.

To paraphrase a previous post
It was an awesome event! Highlights for me:
My 78 year old mom, "Accidentally" getting punched in the arm by FM2
My 84 year old Dad, with his one ticket, winning a skateboard on steroids which he wisely gave to his grandson.
My boy Will playing in the surf with Wingshooter's boy, Branson
Watching Eugene, EG2, trying to land a very stubborn 33" Ling
Meeting BPs fam and little baby! I love babies!
Seeing and fishing with all of my favorite NCKA people

Congratulations on the win, hugs to your sweet daughter, and high fives to JustRoberts! This caring spirit is why I love NCKA! And, Big Jim, what can I say? You're The Man!
-
Right before we got started with the raffle yesterday, LilRiverman came and made an announcement...
He thanked all the Ahulls for their work on putting on PIF and gave me some extra special words of thanks and presented me with a badass octopus belt buckle and compared me to an octopus with my arms in a lot of different things.
:smt007 :smt008
He came up to me later to let me know a bunch of different people had chipped in for the buckle.
Super grateful and appreciative of the words, gesture and buckle (I love buckles!), but want to make sure that everyone knows that this is a group effort for sure!!!
Every single Ahull works hard to make this event a success, and puts up with my OCD attempts to organize stuff, and it really would not be possible without all of us working together...
AND...everyone who donates prizes (whether they be awesome multiple prizes like FishFlogger and YakHopper and Amadeo donate, or individual prizes), everyone who buys a ticket(s), everyone who paddles out, everyone who brings a meal to share at the potluck, everyone who just posts an encouraging message or shows up at the beach just for moral support...
Somebody asked Sara/SaintofCircumstance ($ collector, ticket seller, prize guarder and face painter extraordinaire) yesterday who runs the event and she answered "Everybody!" and I really believe that is true...
Even more so this year...we had a gang of kids lining up to pull tickets, give them to PK/Cen Coast announcing and FishFlogger helping select and group prizes...
PIF has been successful and fun for five years now because of ALL of us...and I think we can ALL be proud of it...
So THANK YOU for the awesome gesture and belt buckle, but just want to make sure that nobdoy thinks that I deserve any more credit than all the rest of us.
:smt008
:smt006
Sincerely,
Jim
-
Correct Jim, it's a community, group, effort. However for GITTIN' IT DONE, and having a big heart, you do deserve mega-credit.
Thanks everyone for chipping in on the buckle !!!!!

Such an awesome event and cause! I am super bummed I couldn't make it this year, but you guys make me proud to be NCKA!!
Nice buckle too!!
-
Please stop thanking me. Like I said, I know I'm a noob and you guys have been taking me in as part of YOUR family. Money does not mean (to) much to me compared to the knowledge I've been getting from everyone one.
Danglin, for getting me into the madness with HOW. Rider, showing me the peace it brings on my very first HOW experience( plus his daughter teaching me self rescue on!!). Rockfish and Weimarian took me fishing on my birthday (ok..I had to meet them because I missed the alarm). Rockfish's son and my kid are now good friends. Mr. Matt showing me what's up with my hometown rivers and going to be getting me trying some fly fishing.... And so on..... All.... Thanks to YOU guys... To me, that's what's Pay It Forward is all about.
And Porky, I felt bad for buying more tickets for myself then buying you more!! I have a 3y/o and #2 on the way... If I even think about my family having to go through...any sort of pain...yea...let's just say..... I think EVERY PERSON ON HERE IS PROUD OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILY for your strength. You deserve a glow-in-the-dark kayak and every Penney we can give you.
To end it, I'll take up on the offer to come an use the yak, but again, I'm a noob. Give me a year, or so, to get some freshwater experience under my yak and even then, I'll rather have you just as a guide and bro (I'm on the Dark Side. I like my hobie).
-
JustRobberts,
Last one, thank you! Pretty cool that hailey pulled the ticket you put in the box! A real trip. Still buzzing from the whole event.
Anytime, your always welcome in SC or to use your new Kayak, Ill join you anytime! By the way, were right by Capitola, its very often lake like, or theres always Stillwater Cove for better fishing!
FisHunter, I've got pretty good at hiding it too :)

One more shout out to all the donors of PIF prizes this year and in all past years!!!!

Huge thanks to you guys!!
And...In particular want to thank those who have donated grand prize kayaks over the years...Jackson Kayak for this year's Cuda14, Dpshim for the OK T15 last year, Santa Cruz Kayaks for the Raptor the year before, Alshobie for the OK T13 the year before that and Karen and Mark from Hook1 for the WS yak at our very first PIF in Santa Cruz in 2010!!

Wow, really sounds magical! Glad everyone had a great time. Still kicking myself for missing this one. I was hooked after my first one last year. God bless to all that made this possible.
I really don't know you Porky, but I pray for your daughter's quick full recovery. Hope everything goes well.

Yeah man, that was such a classy move...such a cool gesture. And somehow it turned out to be THE ticket. So, thanks for making it happen!
This was such a fun event. It was successful because everyone made it that way. Thank you to everyone who attended, participated, donated, volunteered, and won prizes. I'm repeatedly amazed by the generosity and kindness of this community. And the enthusiasm is infectious!
When Hailey drew the final winning ticket for the kayak and handed it to me, I couldn't believe it...like some sort of karmic redemption that you couldn't make up. Porky won the yak! He immediately told us that we should respin...hahaha he probably thought we rigged it or something! :smt005 But he had 4 or 5 tickets in the hopper that other people (ahem, JustRoberts!) bought in his name. That puts the odds at about 80 to 1 ($8400 / 20 - 100 prizes / 4 tix). Although that's a rough estimate...after I got home, I counted all the winning tickets in my pockets and there were 86 plus the unclaimed prizes. That's a lot of prizes! My voice was all jacked up last night hahaha.
Sara posted a video of the final ticket on the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/826744630671029/
I fished for halibut by the hotel with Texas and later Howard. At one point, I saw a diver pull a big halibut into his zodiac so I know they were around. I slow-trolled a squid on 1 rod and a live mac on the other. When I hooked up around 10am on the squid, I immediately knew it was a beast. It slowly towed me in one direction, then changed course and I applied some pressure to turn it...that's when it rocketed horizontally and I my mind started racing...wsb, shark, salmon, seal? After about 10 minutes I got color and it was a damned batray! My PB for sure at about 50lbs...but definitely NOT a wsb!
OK picture time! Wish I took more.

I wanted to send out my thanks to everyone! Hailey is such a sweet and special little girl. These past few months have literally been an emotional roller coaster. We still do not have all the answers as far as Hailey's condition...anytime that infamous cough comes, I am right back in the PICU emotionally/mentally. I will ask my husband, porky, what he thinks we should do because I am emotionally taxed out at times. Watching my daughter hooked up to a CPAP machine fighting for her life, haunts me every single night...
Knowing that we were the PIF recipient while we were in the hospital helped me relax and to concentrate on Hailey. Hearing your words and prayers till this day, makes me cry...those words got us thru while at Lucile Packard.
I said it in my speech, thanks just does not seem enough...but thank you so much. NCKA family will always be part of The Pass Family. I love all of you.

.... And we all love your family!!!!!!
