Title: Dog tooth snapper

The locals in Loreto BCS called this a Dog tooth snapper.  Anybody know its scientific name?

(Lutjanus Jocu) Dog Tooth Snapper. But dont know if thats a dog tooth snapper?

It's not a dog tooth snapper aka Pargo.

It's a Chino Mero aka Mexican Hawkfish

Excellent table fare.

According to this link they are calling it a
Giant Hawkfish, Cirrhitus rivulatus

They remind me of a Mexican version of a cabbie.
Have shot a few while reef diving in Baja.

Thanks for all the replies!  I followed Cabeza de Martillo's link.  That's it!  Giant Hawkfish.  thanks again for the help, and yes, it was great table fare.  We sure landed an eclectic collection of fish in Loreto during the first week of December.
