The locals in Loreto BCS called this a Dog tooth snapper. Anybody know its scientific name?
-
Did you google it? Google search does wonders.

(Lutjanus Jocu) Dog Tooth Snapper. But dont know if thats a dog tooth snapper?
-
It's not a dog tooth snapper aka Pargo.
It's a Chino Mero aka Mexican Hawkfish
Excellent table fare.
According to this link they are calling it a
Giant Hawkfish, Cirrhitus rivulatus
https://www.mexican-fish.com/giant-hawkfish/
They remind me of a Mexican version of a cabbie.
Have shot a few while reef diving in Baja.
Beautiful fish :smt007

Some call it a Clown Hawkfish in Baja

Thanks for all the replies! I followed Cabeza de Martillo's link. That's it! Giant Hawkfish. thanks again for the help, and yes, it was great table fare. We sure landed an eclectic collection of fish in Loreto during the first week of December.
