I have a tarpon 100 for a loaner yak. I'm thinking about selling it and getting something I can use for ocean fishing. I'd like something that can store my rods below deck. Something stable but not huge. I figure to buy something used so it might have to be an older model. Any suggestions on what to look for?

If I can find the used ones to demo. Demo for sure though because I use a Tarpon with the fancy seat and a gel cushion. I need to be sure I can be comfortable in whatever I get.

Get a T140 if you really like your T100.  :smt002  But if you want a rod pod, T13.

Sure there are others, but the T13 is going to be the easiest to find.  I *think* the Wilderness Systems Thresher has a rod pod, and the Jackson Cuda and Kraken I think also have pods.

Cudas and Krakens do for sure...

If you want to borrow a Thresher let me know. Jim is correct about the Jacksons having pods too. You will be much better off in the Kraken than the Cuda on the ocean. The  seat on the Thresher is basically the same as your Tarpon. You will like it.

Thanks for the offer. I'll have to try it. Yes the seat was what put me in a Wilderness to start with. Sounds like I have three to consider. Thanks everyone for the info.

Just let me know. If we are fishing the same area I will bring it, or we can meet and you can pick it up.

You can fit a 7ft rod inside the round Orbix center hatch of a T140 pretty easily.

99.99% of the ocean fishing that you will likely do in NorCal will not require in-hull rod storage. I have yet to encounter a situation where I need to store my rods in NorCal. The only place that I occasionally put my rods below deck is when I do beach launches at Windansea.

I recommend that you learn how to surf launch and land, and pick a comfortable kayak that is easy to cartop and paddle. If that kayak has a rod-pod...bonus.

Yes, the Tarpon 140 is a great ocean fishing platform. I have never stored my rods inside either. I occasionally will bring them out of the holders and place low on the deck for landing, but maybe once a year.
