Staying at the used-2-b-called Ahwahnee this weekend.  Weather looks good wondering if anyone wd recommend fishing this trip, whether in valley or nearby?  Apparently is right next to Tuolumne river.

I would recommend fishing anytime you can.

It has been +10 years, but backpacking I would toss panther martins (black, red on black, or yellow on black) into any small stream and catch small browns.  I fished up by Bridalveil, and Tuolumne Meadows

Once you get a little bit back every creek and river is oaded with trout and they will bite anything. I brought a couple flies with a few feet of line and just hand tossed them in. A fish almost every throw.

Fished the merced twice at yosemite just for kicks.  Never hooked up but enjoyed casting different barbless flies, ant, mosquito...whatever bug you would eat.... on a clear water filled bobber.  Hope you hook up, do some recon every second you see water and pretend you are a trout and look for your troutself.....if you see your troutself home in the water,  you can knock and sell your troutself a hook unless you are out and about because Yosemite is quite the beauty.....I think I am reaching on the metaphor but you get the gist.... :smt006

I horse camped at tuolumne meadows for years.
We would ride up to and fish all the high mountain lakes.
Fishi is right about the Panther Martin lures.
In September they will run you out if storm is coming.
I'm thinking that you'll have to fish the lower tributaries and catch the lakes next summer.
The tuolumne meadows camp is 9000+ ft.
Got a lot of great memories, you'll have a blast.

^ Either he's talking about 1987 or this guy is much better at fishing than I am. I was just there fishing the Merced for 2 days and couldn't catch anything. I saw plenty of fish, but couldn't get any of them to accept my dinner invitations.
