Is anyone having success fishing for ling or blues or blacks out of Doran?  I would like to drop my crab pots at Doran and fish for several hours while I let them soak.  I have not had any success between the shore and seal rock.

We got some nice Lings a few years ago on the far side from the beach.  Just go straight from the beach about 1.5 miles to the rocky area.

I did exactly what you are talking about last weekend.  On my second drop I caught a 21.5" short ling.  We did not have a single other bite for the rest of the day.  Still nice to do something between checking traps but I wouldn't have the highest expectations ;)

No stripers or halibut along the surfline? Or how about perch?

I marked something big on the fish finder this morning when I dropped a pot - came up off the bottom so I assume halibut. You could paddle across the bay to the estero, there is structure there, and from what I have heard lings as well.
