I am inspired by all the 2016 AOTY participants and going to give it a go.  However, I do have some noob questions:

1. How do I pay the entry fee?  Do I go to the AOTY link at the top then click the Paypal Pay Now button?

2. Can I use my fingers or something else to close the fish mouth for picture?

3. Can I renew the marking on my worn out hawg trough using a permanent marker?

Sorry if the questions seem basic, I just don't want to lose a fish because I don't understand the rules (it's hard enough to catch any fish).

What RacinRob said.

When you take a photo make sure that you have one photo that contains ALL of the following

1.Lip/Lips can be seen touching the board, and that the mouth is closed. You can use an item, or fingers to keep the mouth closed.

2. The entire fish is in the photo

3. You can see the measuring board hashmarks around the tail. Mark your boards with a sharpee and try to reduce the obscuring glare from white boards.

While it isn't a requirement, try to post an additional photo of you with the fish. We wont use them to evaluate the submission, but they are generally cooler than fish on a measuring board pics.   :smt003:smt003

Yes, but don't "squeeze" it closed to the point of pinching.  you will face the wrath of Clayman.

Easily identifiable landmarks are very much appreciated!  GPS waypoints are worth extra points I hear!

Thank you all for the comments.  Would this be the suggested thread to post more comments/questions throughout the year?

Shouldn't your kayak or paddle board be visible in a submitted picture?

It's not a requirement, and never has been.  As far as I'm aware, we've never run into or suspected this type of egregious cheating.  But if there's ever any doubt among the committee about an entry, we may ask for any additional photos the participant may have taken on their trip.  If the participant claims they only took one photo that entire day consisting of a fish on a measuring board with no kayak/SUP in sight, it might raise red flags.

My advice: take lots of photos!

Are you supposed to submit a pic of your hawk trough measured with other device(s) (i.e. measurement tape)?

If you submit a picture using an extension please post a picture of the trough with a measuring tape on it so we can verify the length. No fish on it please. Or just post a picture of it the first time you post any picture and we will keep the record there on you r submitted picture. If you change extensions resubmit the verification too.

Also, it's only necessary if you actually need to use the extender. (i.e., if you catch a BIG fish!)  :smt003

Hey All,
It has come to my attention that many of you are not adhering totally to the rules and have had some deductions. Please read the rules again to make sure that you know how to submit pictures correctly. A mouth open, even slightly will be deducted 1.5 inches automatically. Also, as stated in the rules, we do not use the tail shots to determine length. Make sure your picture has a CLEAR measurement in the whole fish pic. That means that the lines on your measuring device need to be completely clear. I suggest you mark the lines and numbers with a sharpie. If the fish is not COMPLETELY in the picture it will be rejected.

Thanks, Rob
