You get 3 lures, no electronics paddle only. Heaviest fish wins.Wow, no electronic only 3 lures? What if you snag since you cant detect pinacles.. I guess you are out? That sounds fun :smt005
Any loaners kayaks out there :smt003? I only have Hobies.

Paddle the Hobie.
Based on the responses , we might need a bigger launch area. Ocean Cove is right up the way! Timber can be a littel challenging with a big crowd.
I remember last year the location was revealed just before the tournament. I have been wondering if this year it would be held at the same location or if we would get a new location announcement like last year. Is it confirmed it will be Timber Cove again?Based on the responses , we might need a bigger launch area. Ocean Cove is right up the way! Timber can be a littel challenging with a big crowd.
That's Ruben's call but we had 50 contestants last year and it was no problem. Many parked on the highway and Ruben got a sweet deal from Brenda and the Timber Cove Inn.
Looks like I am out, I don't throw lures with my fly rod. Have fun everyone!
This is my next tourney on the bucket list!!! Hope the "disclosed location" has camping close. Will bring my brownies for potluck as usual
Eric
Reef is open now I heard.

I will loan you a rod.

Great! I am registered. The link to eventzilla on page one has an extra http in it. I had to edit it and paste it in my browser to get to the registration site.
Reg link worked for me today, signed up and ready to go , Thanks. Looking forward to this event.
Put a mark on your main line...
The 180 foot mark is a long ways out there. You'd have to really try to exceed that. Put a mark on your main line if you are really worried about it.Sounds like an easy solution. Thanks.

I was talking to the lady at Timber Cove and she said she takes reservations for groups of ten or more. Would it be a good idea to reserve some room?
REGISTERED!!!Yeah buddy!
When I was there last weekend a AA group had taken over most of the campground. I got "overflow" that was parking on the side of the highway and pitching a tent for $40. If enough people reserved, the campground itself would be the group site.
Not knowing the area, it seemed as if my choice was that, or pay nothing and sleep on the road. :smt009When I was there last weekend a AA group had taken over most of the campground. You paid $40 to sleep on the side of the road?!? :smt009 :smt044 :smt009 :smt044
It was good seeing you Traildad. Nice ling too. You really can't camp much closer to a beautiful launch if you are going to timber cove. It's a small area. I think you did well on your choice. To camp elsewhere and then get up and drive to TC would have been counter productive. Don't let them get you down.No worries. The side of the road is pretty wide there. :smt044 I'm mostly thinking it would be nice if those that are camping could be able to reserve a spot so we don't have to rely on first come first serve, and we could be in the same camp. I don't know what the normal availability is for first come first serve in that area on a late Friday evening. With no cell service, it would suck to be driving around trying to find a spot, or camping farther away than necessary. I'm sure it will all work out.
Craig no ones trying to get anyone down. Just crazy that she would charge $40 for the side of the road.
There are much better places to camp.
I'm in and excited already!
Ruben, just received a big package from big hammer for you.

Woohoo! Thanks Craig. This year I asked Craig and Pete to choose the swimbait, they chose the 7" #420... musta been thinkin' about the SCSS ;)
I have three Coast HL5 LED headlamps free for the next three first time participants to register for the tournament.
I was just looking at headlamps at walmart today!
Just registered and it's my first time :smt003
Stoked to pop my cherry with you guys LOL
Just signed wife and I up. Hopefully we will be camping for the weekend. Can't wait, we need some coastal time in the 5th wheel together!!! This will be our first SFT as well.
Woohoo! Thanks Craig. And especially, thanks Pete. When Craig made the call to get me some swim baits he was kind enough to try to get them at cost for the tourney. Pete responded by sending them for free. Once again BiG HAMMER steps up BIG TIME. Thanks again Pete and Craig. This year I asked Craig and Pete to choose the swimbait, they chose the 7" #420... musta been thinkin' about the SCSS ;)
Just signed up. Looks like some good fun.Ya' Man!!
Registering after work today. Going to try to convince one or two other guys to join the party! Any recommendations on how early I should arrive if I were to commute from Petaluma that morning?Glad you are coming, the drive from the Petaluma Fairgrounds to Timber Cove is almost 1.5 hrs, you might allow another twenty in case of slight construction delay, or slow vehicles, or for the location being further north if that be the case. If you mean when should you be at the launch, why not before gray light?
As I mentioned in another thread BIG HAMMER has stepped up BIG TIME. Thanks to Pro Staffer Craig Davis, Pete Wolf has donated all the swim baits for this years tourney. The bait they choose is the seven inch Reckless Toast. Check it out.
All right I'm in... Order Reference : 2014983272-970942 Now anyone want to show me where the fish are!?!?!?!

Hey Shannon, you know this is hook and line, right? I don't wanna see no 40" three eyed ling. ;)
First time SFT entrant here. How are the lures dispensed? Do we go find a guy the night before at the campsite, or nice and early at launch?
Ruben,
Is it ok to bring the ticket on a phone?
Mahalo,
Isao
She said she will take reservations for groups of ten or more. Should we try to make that happen?Sounds tuff to do, as ten is about 1/4 of the presently registered participants. I like your enthusiasm though Traildad. I am pleased Brenda is happy enough to see us that she has offered a discount, that's great news WTG Ruben!
You don't think ten people will be camping? I suppose its possible, but there is no way I want to leave home at two in the morning so I can be on the water early. I'll probably stay till Sunday if the weather is good. She said she will take reservations for groups of ten or more. What if someone uses a rockfish they catch as a hitchhiker? Is that allowed?
Is Jedmo allowed to chum? Can I fish next to Jedmo while he is chumming? If a ling barfs up an octopus in my lap can I use it for bait? If I swallow a bunch of whole squid the morning of the event and barf them up in my lap can I use that for bait? :smt011 :smt003
Dammit Adam, that was my secret trick!!!
If there are 10 people that are camping and want a reserved spot, I am willing to coordinate it. I don't want to ask fishkraft to take on the extra hassle. Speak up if you want a spot.I will be camping, I need space for a small pop-up campr
Ok good. I have pop-up about 18 ft also and two vehicle of course. I hope to get a spot at Timber cove
Is this a heaviest fish or heaviest bag tourney? What species are being accepted?
Traildad has 3 for a group camp reservation, I would make 4.
I really want to do this tournament and it would be my first but I can't see myself leaving the house at 1:30 AM to be on the beach and ready to launch by 5AM.
Anyone else want to join in and get a reservation to camp? PM Traildad, make it happen. :smt003
Just registered! Sounds like a blast, can't wait!Your with me muggle :smt002

Heaviest single Lingcod (more time to travel).

Don't worry if you cant make a reservation. There will be plenty of space.

I may be able to show up and help out if you are in need of volunteers, but can't commit quite yet. I'll know a little more about my schedule later this week.
Oh I'm bringing my yak! I just can't commit to the tournament, I really wish I could.I may be able to show up and help out if you are in need of volunteers, but can't commit quite yet. I'll know a little more about my schedule later this week.
Thanks, that's a very generous offer but you should fish. I would if I could. Panama is calling.

Are we going to have a potluck? We didn't have that much food last year.
Signed up for the madness. So far just four.
I'll be at TC tomorrow for my weekly salt therapy.
If Traildad gets a list of 10 committed for a reservation (including me!) I'd be happy to pay the reservation for Friday night tomorrow.
Just send me a PM Traildad if you get enough, I'm leaving the house at 0345 in the morning.
Oh I'm sure she will take all ten of your guys money! Just the same as she will from anyone else that shows up! About the best she can do is block off a section for ya on the beach for your 'reservation' if this many people are going to show up.There wouldn't be much point to making a reservation if that didn't get you a reserved actual site. The other people that showed up would be overflow and choosing from the side of the road or crowding in between sites. Those 10 sites would be taken the same as if we were parked in them. If we get ten in time, I will confirm this when I talk to her.
So what about potluck? We're down, what about everyone else? There seems to be some interest, but you know how potluck goes it only works if people contribute.Count me in on the potluck.

Order Reference : 2014983272-986118 :smt006
At least you won't have to worry about losing too much gear out there since we have only 1 fishing pole and 3 hooks! :smt044
I may have missed it, but are we restricted to launching out of Timber Cove?

Ruben,
Is it too late for me to sign up? My family trip just got cancelled due to lack of water; actually, no running water anymore....
Whats the deal? Camping? Launching? etc.... if there's still room for me, (and probably Jedmo too...)
... fish hard.

Just use your peddles to go into the current. Oh, I forgot, you need to fish in a true kayak with a paddle this time, haha. :smt044
I don't care how you use them.
I don't care how you use them.
I assume no weights can be added?
I don't think the rules could be any more simple, or clear, omg.. sometimes it's like my wife's 8th grade class in here, lol
Yeah seems pretty straight foreward to me.. :smt044
To that end I am gonna level the playing field by limiting each angler to one rod and reel and three lures (provided), everybody fishes the same three lures, no bait, no scents. No mechanized propulsion systems, no sails, no fish finders, no GPS, just a kayak, a paddle, landing gear and safety equipment. Simple, right?
I assumed no weights. On the other hand , weights are used for simple fishing. Better safe than sorry. I'd hate to handicap myself if they were allowed.

It will be interesting. The chute won't do anything about the current but it will slow you down a bit if it's windy. Hopefully the NW wind will be offset by a current from the south. Either way, I love a challenge!

Not going to make it. I start a new job tomorrow and custody of my kid (2yrs) goes to weekends only for a while.
Good luck everyone and be safe

I haven't been to an event for a while. Hope to get to this one but it is now sold out. If anyone needs to cancel I'd appreciate the chance to buy your entry! Otherwise is it OK to just come and fish?

Just trying to scare off the competition? Causing no small level of panic!!! Timber has a sheltered launch right? or are we going head on into the surf? Never been there so what is the ACTUAL danger level at launch and land... On the water we are corks but launch/land how is it there
Good call Ruben!!!
Once again the voice of experience has spoken. I took a look at the NOAA forecast for that region and it does not look good. As GB2 says, you never know till you get there. Could be decent conditions, and I hope the weather gods smile upon you.
Most important is remembering in the ocean it's always Safety First no matter what. Especially in terms of a tourney, wherein an organizer takes some defacto responsibility for the health and safety of participants.
Wish I could be there fish fro Redtail Perch if nothing else. But my UCSC move in happens this week, so I'm working both days ;-( .....

It would be nice if we could know by Friday evening. I love you guys, but there are only two things that can get me up at 1:30am for a 4 hour drive, and ya'll aint one of em :smt003It would be nice then we can just drive down there in the afternoon.

I love you guys, but there are only two things that can get me up at 1:30am for a 4 hour drive, and ya'll aint one of em :smt003Hmmm, Going with that... If cancelled... Why couldn't all those PAID, Win in the raffle there or NOT? I assume your not selling extra chance tickets to the raffle. 71+- tickets and prize delivery shouldn't be a problem. (no Kayak/huge prizes) What do you think Ruben? Odds are that if the WX worsens and this thing gets cancelled, we could play from home and save $200.00 -300.00 in gas/camp to spend on AOTY opportunities.... I for one, NEED to fish... (AOTY, KAYAK WARS) Can all that PAID (71+-) play raffle even if not there?
What about rescheduling it to Sunday?
I think Ruben is being more than fair to try and consider all options. But I think he has it right, and really has no obligation to change a thing. We all know the situation around tournaments by now don't we? No one can change the weather, or pick a perfect date for a tourney.
I plan on being there Saturday morning and holding out hope it's not as bad as the forecast. I'll be ready to fish if you give the go ahead Ruben and if you call it then that's fine too.Well said, me too. In fact I went to OPS tonight and picked up some leader to help me land a monster ling.
Whatever you decide to do Ruben I will support your decision.

Honestly though with the tourney being single biggest fish it's almost like a damn drawing anyways.

Agreed. I just objected to the ideas of tournament morning cancellation notice and needing to be there (even though we registered) to be eligible for the prize if it goes up for raffle.
I'm all for keeping it a go and letting individuals decide whether or not they want to launch.

I am fine with whatever Ruben decides. Laura and I will be at Ocean Cove in the 5th wheel for the weekend, so if I don't get to fish, I still WON!!!! Ruben, you can't make everybody happy all of the time; just do what you want/think is best. Come by OC, look for the "Nemo" flag and stop by for a beer/wine or soda :smt003See you at OC Friday nite!
I need some gnarly surf launch practice anyway! Bring it on big blue! Looking forward to the weekend regardless of the conditions. Gonna be a fun one fellas
1.) The tournament is not canceled as of yet and may not be. If the tournament is canceled (and ONLY if it is) and you do not wish to participate in the raffle you will be eligible for a full credit towards entry in the next Simply Fishing Tournament.
2.) This is coastal kayak fishing, I can not accurately make the call to cancel until I am there, on the day, to see the actual fishing conditions at the time of launch. That's fishing.
3.) IF it is necessary to cancel the competition, only the paid entrants will be eligible to win the grand prize. One ticket per entry.
4.) Just as with a kayaking fishing competition, you have to play to get the pay (must be present to win)
In service and humility,

Anybody got an outdoor griddle set up? Large-ish
Headed to TC O'dark thirty, what the F........Truck decided otherwise :smt013. Humbly ask Wife if I could use her car, She was more than happy to let me turn her car into a kayak carrying camp mobile, Didn't even need to cash in WAF points :smt044. She has a six pack of Biker Mamas :smt007 staying at the house for Street Vibrations. So out come the tools, drill, welder and duct tape and poof couple hours later rack mounted on her car. Now she comes out to the garage and "What did You Do To My Car????" :smt012. Well Babe, you did say I could take your car and now you have a rack system for your trips :smt003. She said hurry up and leave or she is buying a New Harley :smt008. Sooooo on the road by 3pm....TC and Simply Fishn' here I come.
......... More reason to come early, camp and hang with the homies. Epic roster this year, all the cool kids are coming... Until next time I guess. Enjoy everyone.
After great consideration with all the variables, I've decided not to pop my ocean cherry because of the weather conditions. Plus, my wife won't let me come...... Yea, that might make me sound kind of whipped, but I'm going salmon fishing on the AR instead.
Don't need a refund, but could I request my raffle ticket (if it maybe cancelled) be donated to Haley and her family?! :smt044
Really wish I could of met all the cool kids ............ More reason to come early, camp and hang with the homies. Epic roster this year, all the cool kids are coming... Until next time I guess. Enjoy everyone.

Who's the winner?
Kiet, DesertDiver and myself snagged some 10 inch abs on Sunday in 35 fow.
Congrats to Craig for the win. I hope the trip to panama is a blast. Congrats also to Ruben for putting on a fine tournament. I'm glad the weather didn't cancel the tourney and I hope there weren't a lot of people that let the forecast stop them from fishing.I'm extremely interested in watching this video, but I'm getting this message.
The water was a little bumpy and as I was launching someone came in saying they were a bit seasick. I also ended up not feeling great but I lasted until I lost all my lures. I never got a bite. Thanks Great Bass 2 for showing me around. The pot luck was another in a NCKA tradition of eating great food until I could eat no more. I had planned on serving burgers. When I got up Saturday morning I found that something had unzipped a canvas bag and eaten all my hamburger buns. I went to get some at the store down the road only to find them closed due to a family emergency. I got lucky in the raffle and won a nice EGO sliding net. Sweet! Thank you to all the sponsors that contributed to the event.
Here is a video I shot on the water showing a little of what the conditions were like.
