Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / GWS Santa Cruz
« on: September 07, 2021, 11:19:29 AM »
Fished a skiff off the SC wharf on Labor Day.

Deployed wind anchor after the wind picked up about a mile off Steamers.  Noticed a silhouette that I thought was a school of bait fish. Realized the shape of the school was pretty consistent and what it actually was: 12-16’ GWS.

It’s a terrible pick because it kept its distance. If you zoom into the middle of the frame you can make out the general shape.

Howdy!

New to the forum.

My first kayak is a 2012 Hobie Revo 13’. It is not particularly well outfitted for fishing. (Any recommendations on how to mount rod holder, down rigger, and fish finder?) My first weekend on the boat landed two rainbow trout and a honker!!

While I started off with the pedal drive, I certainly don’t consider myself bound. I have borrowed paddle boats, and enjoyed paddling, especially in the kelp paddies and in moving water.

I am seldom a purist.  I catch fish with flies on my spinning rod and worms on my fly rod. I do what it takes.

Tight lines!!

Finally got my chance to kiss the ring.

Took the wife and kids to Santa Cruz Wharf to fish the skiffs today. 25 fish, pretty much all were taco-sized. Gut, gilled, and scaled a few for the in-laws.

All fish were taken on shrimp flies tipped with squid. No hits on the swim baits or octopus jigs. Actually lost a lot of gear today.

Tight lines!!
