Title: Fishing for Smallmount in Delta on Father's Day - Need Advice where to Launch
Post by: JSchmidt on June 15, 2017, 03:32:56 PM
My wife has graciously given me the day off with no restrictions on Father's Day. Planning to chase smallmouth all day long in the Delta around the Walnut Grove area. I've only been on the Delta once out in Stockton, but heard Walnut Grove was a good place for smallies. Two questions:

1. Where is a good place to launch in that area?

2. Is the water safe right now? I live in the Sac area and the river still looks extremely high and fast. Is this affecting the sloughs in the delta?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I've never fished there, but I own a map! I would try launching at Wimpys Marina and head south along the Mokelumne. I'm sure others can give you more info. Here's a shot of that area on my map

Water is still flowing fast down the sac out to rio vista. You can probably make it to isleton from walnut grove in under 2 hrs just by drifting in a kayak.
