Meet Joel at 7:30am.  Lake opens at 6 am now.  Only two months where it opens at 7am (I think it is Dec and Jan?).

Weather look OK.  No wind until 9 am.  A few sprinkles not bad.  Water was muddy.  No Fish.  Had one pick up my green power bait  with a bobber (trout probably) let go of the thing just before I set the hook.

Hightlight of the day...found a catfish swimming in circles.  net him after a few tries.  He kept on diving down with the net next to him.  Look like he was hit by a bird (Osprey maybe).  Gave it to Joseph.  He was fishing on the bank with his kids.

Joel left at 12pm and we took off at 1pm.  Started to really rain.

I was out there on Presidents day and Chocolate is the word for this lake for the next week or so. I went all the way to the dam looking for clearer water and even over there it was about 3" visibility.
Results 2 Largemouth to 3 pounds and lost one bigger while slow jigging 20 to 30 feet. No trout.
I also saw a crazed catfish kicking around the top and wondered what was up. It didn't show any signs of injury!?

the other Ken - thanks for the update on the conditions of Del Valle.
Looks like I'll be making a trip to Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton - company welcome!

The other Ken - you should register on this site so we can send you a PM if we decide to hit Del Valle again.

I hope Del Valle clears up soon!

GTO - get the smallest size in a shad color. If you plan to cast around - use 4 to 6 pound line. These lures are too light to cast with heavy line (unfortunately). FYI: I use the same line for trolling and casting (4 to 6#).

Good luck and let us know how you do!

Joel, have you ever tried using 10lb test ProwerPro spectra.  It has the diameter of 2lb mono?

That should be nice and thin enough for your small lure.
